Modelling of free boundary problems for phase change with diffuseinterfaces [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, 2005
We present a continuum thermodynamical framework for simulating multiphase Stefan problem. For alloy solidification, which is marked by a diffuse interface called the mushy zone, we present a phase filed like formalism which comprises a set of macroscopic conservation equations with an order parameter which can account for the solid, liquid, and the ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Detecting Output Pressure Change of Positive-Displacement Pump by Phase Trajectory Method [PDF]

open access: yesActa Montanistica Slovaca, 2010
The monitoring of hydraulic system condition change during its exploitation ran its complex problem. The main task is to identifyearly phase damage of hydraulic system elements (pumps, valves, ect.) in order to take decision which can avoid hydraulic ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Sustainability Analysis of Phase-Change Solvents for Post-Combustion CO2 Capture

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2019
Phase-change solvents is a solution to the energy penalty problem of post-combustion CO2 capture. While the improved thermodynamic performance of processes using phase-change solvents is previously demonstrated, there is no research done on the ...

A Bellman's procedure for a phase change problem

open access: yesMathematical Modelling, 1987
AbstractIn this paper, Bellman's Differential Quadrature Method, which reduces a partial differential equation of parabolic type to a finite set of ordinary differential equations, is shown to be particularly suitable for solving moving boundary problems like Stefan melting problem.

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).
