Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Numerical Simulations of a Motion-Based Latching Control Strategy for Enhanced Wave Energy Conversion in a Point Absorber

open access: yesEnergies
The power take-off (PTO) system is central to wave energy converter (WEC) performance, and therefore control strategies are essential to effectively enhance energy absorption and device response.

Improved control strategy of TFAPF in active distribution networks

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
In order to solve the deterioration of power quality caused by power electronic devices in active distribution networks, it is necessary to improve the three-phase four-wire active power filters (TFAPF) control strategy.

Effectiveness of Resistance Intradialytic Exercise Compared to Aerobic Intradialytic Exercise for Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis commonly experience reduced physical function, fatigue, poor sleep quality, and impaired health‐related quality of life. Intradialytic exercise has been proposed as a non‐pharmacological strategy to improve these outcomes.

Control of Current Phase Advancing in Single-Leg Power Converters with the Use of Switched Capacitors

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
This paper deals with the control of current phase advancing in single-leg voltage source inverters (VSI) and matrix converters with a two-phase output. The phase shift of the current in the auxiliary phase is set with the use of switched capacitors. Two

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Series Compensated Low Frequency Transformers Emulating Multipulse Rectifiers for Harmonic Current Content Minimization in Electrical Grids

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper explores the use of series compensated low frequency transformers (SCLFT), operating in parallel to traditional low frequency transformers (LFT), to attenuate harmonic distortion caused by nonlinear loads in electrical networks.

Phase-controlled phonon laser

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
A phase-controlled ultralow-threshold phonon laser is proposed by using tunable optical amplifiers in coupled-cavity-optomechanical system. Giant enhancement of coherent photon-phonon interactions is achieved by engineering the strengths and phases of external parametric driving.
