Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Accurate assembly of transcripts through phase-preserving graph decomposition

open access: yesNature Biotechnology, 2017
We introduce Scallop, an accurate reference-based transcript assembler that improves reconstruction of multi-exon and lowly expressed transcripts. Scallop preserves long-range phasing paths extracted from reads, while producing a parsimonious set of ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Toward Knowledge‐Based Workflows: A Semantic Approach to Atomistic Simulations for Mechanical and Thermodynamic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge‐based atomistic workflows are presented for mechanical and thermodynamic properties. By coupling modular simulations with ontology‐aligned metadata and provenance, Fe case studies on elastic behavior, defects, thermal properties, and Hall–Petch strengthening reveal how FAIR, queryable, and reusable simulation data can be generated. Mechanical

Quantum mechanical simulations of condensed-phase decomposition dynamics in molten RDX

open access: yes, 2013
A reaction rate model of condensed-phase decomposition hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) under pressures up to several GPa is needed to support mesoscale simulations of the energetic material's response to thermal and shock loading.

Decomposition characteristics of natural gas hydrates in hydraulic lifting pipelines

open access: yesNatural Gas Industry B, 2019
For the sake of guiding parameter setting of the hydraulic lifting pipeline system for cutter-suction mining of natural gas hydrates (“hydrates” for short) on the seabed, the decomposition characteristics of hydrates in hydraulic lifting pipelines and ...

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Preparation of Mn2O3by Thermal Decomposition of MnSO4 Combined with Reductive Leaching of Low-grade Pyrolusite Using the Decomposition Gas

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2014
:Dimanganese trioxide (Mn2O3) was prepared by thermal decomposition of manganese sulfate (MnSO4).Decomposition gas released during the Mn2O3 preparation was used to leach pyrolusite ore.The thermal decomposition of MnSO4showed that 850 ℃ was the best ...

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...
