Behavior of a chiral condensate around astrophysical-mass Schwarschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
In this work, we develop a perturbative method to describe the behavior of a chiral condensate around a spherical black hole whose mass is astrophysically realistic. We use the inverse mass as the expansion parameter for our perturbative series.

Fluid phase equilibria of the reacting mixture in the dimethyl carbonate synthesis from supercritical CO2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In order to investigate the dimethyl carbonate synthesis from methanol and supercritical CO2, the thermodynamic behaviour of the reacting mixture, i.e. the quaternary methanol/CO2/DMC/water mixture, has to be known.

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Pion screening mass at finite chemical potential

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We present a method to compute the responses of meson screening masses to the chemical potential by Taylor expanding the correlator using lattice QCD simulation. We start by comparing the free theory lattice results with the analytical expression.

Ab Initio Phase Diagram of Copper

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Copper has been considered as a common pressure calibrant and equation of state (EOS) and shock wave (SW) standard, because of the abundance of its highly accurate EOS and SW data, and the assumption that Cu is a simple one-phase material that does not ...

From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

Thermal pion condensation: holography meets lattice QCD

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
The holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model is often employed to describe strongly-coupled baryonic and isospin-asymmetric matter, for example in the context of neutron stars.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Revisiting color superconductors in bottom-up holography

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We revisit the problem of constructing a color superconducting phase in bottom-up holography. We introduce a model that describes the five-dimensional dynamics of a scalar field dual to a chiral symmetry breaking condensate, which is coupled to the RR 4 ...
