Extended Abstract: Force-Directed Layout for Euler Diagrams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Euler diagrams are the only diagrams that intuitively represent containment, intersection and exclusion of data, but none of the current automatic diagram layout techniques produce good layouts in a reasonable time.

Dynamically generated concatenated codes and their phase diagrams

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
We formulate code concatenation as the action of a unitary quantum circuit on an expanding tree geometry and find that for certain classes of gates, applied identically at each node, a binary tree circuit encodes a single logical qubit with code distance

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

A Study into the Comprehension of Euler Diagrams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We describe an empirical investigation into some of the layout criteria that may facilitate the comprehension of Euler diagrams. The three criteria under investigation were: smoothness, zone area equality and edge closeness.

MONTE CARLO SIMULATION OF PHASE EQUILIBRIA IN ISING FLUIDS AND THEIR MIXTURES

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2003
The mean field theory for the pure Ising fluid was recently extended to binary mixtures of an Ising and a van der Waals fluid. Depending on the relative interaction strengths, their three dimensional phase diagrams show lines of tricritical consolute and

Phase Diagram of UTe2

open access: yesJETP Letters
The pressure–temperature phase diagram of superconducting UTe2 with three lines of the second-order phase transitions cannot be explained in terms of successive transitions to superconducting states with a decrease in symmetry. The problem is solved using a two-band description of the superconducting state of UTe2.

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Topological Phase Transitions, Phase Diagrams, and Dielectric Properties of Pb(Zr0.7Ti0.3)O3‐Based Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research
Ferroelectric/paraelectric superlattices, created through the periodic stacking of their constituent materials, exhibit intricate phase diagrams that reveal a variety of polar topologies and properties not found in any of the individual components.

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...
