Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Application of near critical behavior of equilibrium ratios to phase equilibrium calculations

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2019
We examine the asymptotic behavior of the equilibrium ratios (Ki) near the convergence locus in the pressure-temperature plane. When the Equation of State (EoS) is analytical, which is the case of most EoS of engineering purpose, Ki tends towards unity ...

Phase equilibria among η-Fe2Al5 and its higher-ordered phases

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2021
Phase equilibria among the η-Fe2Al5 phase and its higher-ordered phases with the η framework structure were determined experimentally. The solubility range of the η phase at elevated temperature does not differ remarkably from that in previous studies ...

Phase equilibrium and insulin partitioning in aqueous two-phase systems containing block copolymers and potassium phosphate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this work, phase diagrams of aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) containing PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers and potassium phosphate as well as the partitioning behavior of insulin in these systems are presented.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Holographic description of the QCD phase diagram and out of equilibrium dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Holography provides a powerful tool to model QCD and other strongly coupled gauge dynamics. As examples of its power to compute in novel environments I review some recent results: these include models of the phase structure of QCD at finite temperature ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Phase Equilibrium Studies of Nonferrous Smelting Slags: A Review

open access: yesMetals
Pyrometallurgy is the primary technique for the production of many nonferrous metals such as copper, lead, and zinc. The phase equilibrium information of smelting slags plays an important role in the efficient extraction of metals and energy consumption.
