Dynamic phase of the electromagnetic field

Physical Review A, 1995
The quantum state of the electromagnetic field produced by a known current distribution consists of a coherent state multiplied by a time-dependent phase factor. This nonclassical phase factor includes a dynamic component that vanishes in the quasistatic limit of slowly varying currents.

Phase Field Methods

2020
This article reviews the principles and applications of the phase field technique for modeling phase transformations and microstructural evolutions, with an emphasis on solid-solid transformations. Conventional phase field models, which rely on phenomenological thermodynamic and kinetic descriptions, are first presented and examples of application are ...

Phase in the Near Field

Frontiers in Optics 2012/Laser Science XXVIII, 2012
In recent decades, the role of phase in near-field optics has been explored. I discuss past results, current challenges, and unexplored avenues of research in near-field phase.

Dressed fields and phase

Physica Scripta, 1997
In the theory of the interaction of radiation with atoms, the concept of a dressed atom is well known. In this paper we explore aspects of the antithesis of this, the concept of a dressed field, that is, a field dressed by the atoms of the medium. In particular we use the concept to study the quantum mechanical action of a retarding plate.

Phase Field Methods

2015
The phase-field method to modeling microstructure evolution in materials is introduced in this chapter. It can be employed to model, understand, and predict complex material behaviors at meso-scale (on the order of nano- to micro-meter size), and it covers application-relevant time scales (on the order of seconds to years).

Phase Field Approach

2011
The term phase field has recently become known across many fields of materials science. The meaning of phase field is the spatial and temporal order parameter field defined in a continuum-diffused interface model. By using the phase field order parameters, many types of complex microstructure changes observed in materials science are described ...
