Development and Numerical Testing of a Model of Equiaxed Alloy Solidification Using a Phase Field Formulation

open access: yesMetals, 2023
A computational framework is developed to understand the transient behavior of isothermal and non-isothermal transformation between liquid and solid phases in a binary alloy using a phase-field method.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Athermal resistance to phase interface motion due to precipitates: A phase field study

open access: yes, 2022
Athermal resistance to the motion of a phase interface due to a precipitate is investigated. The coupled phase field and elasticity equations are solved for the phase transformation (PT).

Phase Field Simulation Study on Bubble Evolution Behavior of UO2

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
A phase field model was established to study the evolution of gas bubbles in UO2 under typical irradiation conditions. First, the phase field method was used to simulate the nucleation and growth of bubbles in UO2 under different temperature conditions ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The effect of forest dislocations on the evolution of a phase-field model for plastic slip

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the gradient flow evolution of a phase-field model for crystal dislocations in a single slip system in the presence of forest dislocations.

Diffusive–Mechanical Coupled Phase Field for the Failure Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Under Chloride Erosion

open access: yesBuildings
The construction of large-scale infrastructure, such as power facilities, requires extensive use of reinforced concrete. The durability degradation of reinforced concrete structures in chloride environments involves multi-physics coupling effects ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
