Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Pultruded GFRP Translaminar Fracture Toughness Evaluation Using a Hybrid Approach of Size-Effect and Machine Learning

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The translaminar fracture toughness of pultruded Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRP) is influenced by several factors, including the type of matrix, fiber, the fiber volume ratio, the proportion of plies at each angle and the size of the test ...

Comparison of Analytical and Numerical Simulations for Underwater Ice Evolution and Nonlinear Dynamics of False Bottoms

open access: yesMathematics
In the present work, a comparative study of a model of the nonlinear solidification of a binary melt in the presence of a quasi-equilibrium mushy region and a binary phase field model of an aqueous solution of NaCl in water is performed.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Simulation of microstructure evolution in fused-coating additive manufacturing based on phase field approach [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2017
The mechanical properties of metal components are determined by the solidification behaviour and microstructure. A quantitative phase field model is used to investigate the microstructure evolution of fused-coating additive manufacturing, by which to ...
