Particles, phases, fields [PDF]

open access: yesBanach Center Publications, 1996
The physical properties of particles and phasesare considered in connection with their description by means of the deformation of space-time. The analogy between particle trajectories and phase boundaries is discussed. The geometry and its curvature is related to the Clifford algebraic structure whose construction in terms of the theory of deformation ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Phase Field Simulations of Microstructure Evolution in IN718 using a Surrogate Ni–Fe–Nb Alloy during Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The solidification microstructure in IN718 during additive manufacturing was modeled using phase field simulations. The novelty of the research includes the use of a surrogate Ni–Fe–Nb alloy that has the same equilibrium solidification range as IN718 as ...

Field-induced 3- and 2-dimensional freezing in a quantum spin liquid

open access: yes, 2000
Field-induced commensurate transverse magnetic ordering is observed in the Haldane-gap compound \nd by means of neutron diffraction. Depending on the direction of applied field, the high-field phase is shown to be either a 3-dimensional ordered N\'{e}el ...

Phase transitions of a phase field model

open access: yesDiscrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems - B, 2011
We consider a phase field model for the mixture of two viscous incompressible uids with the same density. The model leads to a coupled Navier-Stokes/Cahn-Hilliard system. We explore the dynamics of the system near the critical point via a dynamic phase transition theory developed recently by Ma and Wang [7, 8].

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
