Statistical mechanics approach to the phase unwrapping problem

open access: yes, 2000
The use of Mean-Field theory to unwrap principal phase patterns has been recently proposed. In this paper we generalize the Mean-Field approach to process phase patterns with arbitrary degree of undersampling.

A phase field model for snow crystal growth in three dimensions

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials, 2017
Snowflake growth provides a fascinating example of spontaneous pattern formation in nature. Attempts to understand this phenomenon have led to important insights in non-equilibrium dynamics observed in various active scientific fields, ranging from ...

Phase Field Modeling Using PetIGA

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2013
AbstractPhase field modeling has become a widely used framework in the computational material science community. Its ability to model different problems by defining appropriate phase field parameters and relating it to a free energy functional makes it highly versatile.

Dynamical phase-field model of cavity electromagnonic systems

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Cavity electromagnonic system, which simultaneously consists of cavities for photons, magnons (quanta of spin waves), and acoustic phonons, provides an exciting platform to achieve coherent energy transduction among different physical systems down to ...

Plasticity and Dislocation Dynamics in a Phase Field Crystal Model

open access: yes, 2010
The critical dynamics of dislocation avalanches in plastic flow is examined using a phase field crystal (PFC) model. In the model, dislocations are naturally created, without any \textit{ad hoc} creation rules, by applying a shearing force to the ...

Phase field modeling of fracture and stress-induced phase transitions

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2007
We present a continuum theory to describe elastically induced phase transitions between coherent solid phases. In the limit of vanishing elastic constants in one of the phases, the model can be used to describe fracture on the basis of the late stage of the Asaro-Tiller-Grinfeld instability.

Phase transitions of a phase field model

open access: yesDiscrete & Continuous Dynamical Systems - B, 2011
We consider a phase field model for the mixture of two viscous incompressible uids with the same density. The model leads to a coupled Navier-Stokes/Cahn-Hilliard system. We explore the dynamics of the system near the critical point via a dynamic phase transition theory developed recently by Ma and Wang [7, 8].

Phase field approximation of cohesive fracture models

open access: yesAnnales de l'Institut Henri Poincaré C, Analyse non linéaire, 2016
We obtain a cohesive fracture model as Γ-limit, as \varepsilon \rightarrow 0 , of scalar damage models in which the elastic coefficient is computed from the damage variable v through a function f_{\varepsilon }
