Phase-field simulations of two-phase pipe flow
2022Phase-field approaches have emerged as a promising tool to model the flow of immiscible fluids in recent years. Their ability to naturally capture interface topological changes is widely recognized, but their accuracy in simulating flows of real fluids in practical geometries is not well established.

Phase-field simulations of two-phase flows
2014In this thesis, I study a number of issues related to two-phase fluid flows and spike simulations of a biological model. In the first part of the thesis, I simulate the moving contact line in two-dimensional chemically patterned channels using a diffuse-interface model with the generalized Navier boundary condition (GNBC).

Phase-field-crystal simulation of nonequilibrium crystal growth
Physical Review E, 2014By using the phase field crystal model, we simulate the morphological transition of the crystal growth of equilibrium crystal shape, dendrite, and spherical crystal shape. The relationship among growth morphology, velocity, and density distribution is investigated.

Simulation of ferroelastic phase formation using phase-field model
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2018Abstract In order to predict the formation of ferroelastic phases in crystal grains of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF), which is a common material used for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), we propose an analysis method based on a phase-field model. The phase-field model equipped with the elastic energy is introduced to realize the ferroelastic phase ...

Displacive Phase Transitions at Large Strains: Phase-Field Theory and Simulations
Physical Review Letters, 2009The Landau potential for multivariant displacive phase transformations (PTs) is derived for the most general case of large rotations, elastic and transformational strains, as well as nonlinear and different elastic properties of phases. The method of repetitive superposition of large strains is extended for PTs and is utilized in the finite-element ...

Phase field simulations of ferroelectric materials
2014Ferroelectric materials have become preferred materials in a wide variety of electronic and mechatronic devices due to their pronounced dielectric, piezoelectric, and pyroelectric properties. The material macroscopic properties are related to the microscopic domain structure of the materials.

Phase Separation and Elastic Fields: Three Dimensional Simulations of a Phase Field Model
MRS Proceedings, 1999AbstractThe effects of long-range elastic fields on the phase separation process of three- dimensional binary alloy systems was investigated with large-scale Langevin simulations. The elastic effects incorporated in the model are the result of anisotropy and dilational misfits introduced via inhomogeneities in the elastic constants of the constituents.

Isogeometric Phase-Field Simulation of Boiling
2016In this work we consider the Navier–Stokes–Korteweg equations, a diffuse-interface model describing liquid–vapor phase transitions. A numerical scheme for this model is constructed based on functional entropy variables and a new time integration concept.

Selected issues of phase-field crystal simulations
The European Physical Journal Plus, 2011In this contribution our focus is on the phase-field crystal method, which can be viewed as the youngest methodology in the field of interface computation based on recent work by Elder et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 245701 (2002)). It bridges the gap between the molecular simulation approaches and the phase-field approach by operating on diffusive time ...
