PREDICTION OF GAS-PHASE HOLDUP IN A BUBBLE COLUMN
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1997Hydrodynamic properties of bubble columns play a significant role in many chemical and biochemical processes. Recent theoretical and experimental work conducted by Krishna et al. (1991, 1994), and Wilkinson et al. (1992) have been examined in conjunction with a bubble column and data for the air-water system operating at ambient conditions.

Ultrasonic technique for dispersed-phase holdup measurements

Holdup characteristics of two-phase parallel microflows
Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, 2013Two-phase parallel microflows, i.e., stratified flow and core-annular flow, have many applications in lab-on-chip devices. These include transport and reaction processes, such as liquid–liquid extraction and phase transfer catalysis. The phase holdup (fraction of the microchannel volume occupied by a specified phase) is a key parameter of these flow ...

PHASE HOLDUPS AND LIQUID-LIQUID EXTRACTION IN THREE PHASE FLUIDIZED BEDS
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1988Abstract Effects of the continuous phase velocity (0.01-0.08 m/s(, the dispersed phase velocity (0.0-0.04 m/s) and particle size (1.0-3.0 mm) on the individual phase holdups and the mass transfer coefficient have been determined in two (liquid-liquid) and three (liquid-liquid-solid) phase fluidized beds.

Distributions of flow regimes and phase holdups in three-phase fluidized beds
Chemical Engineering Science, 1995Abstract Pressure fluctuation characteristics at different axial and radial positions were investigated in a three-phase fluidized-bed Plexiglas column of 285 mm inside diameter and 4100 mm height operated with air, tap water and glass beads under different conditions. It was found that the whole column may display different flow regimes depending on

Measurement of Local Phase Holdups in a Two- and Three-Phase Bubble Column
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2000A new invasive sensing probe for the measurement of local phase holdups in two- and three-phase reactors is described. The local gas and solids holdups in a bubble column with a volume of V=2 m 3 at varying operating conditions (gas velocity, sparger design, solids content and density) are measured by means of differential pressure measurement in ...

Phase Holdups in Three-Phase Semifluidized Beds and the Generalized Bubble Wake Model
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2009A new experimental measurement methodology was proposed to characterize the hydrodynamics in gas−liquid−solid semifluidized beds. Using pressure drop measurements in the lower fluidized bed section and a tracer response technique in the upper fixed bed portion, the six phase holdup components of the reactor were determined simultaneously.

A mechanistic model for phase holdup predictions in a three-phase fluidized bed
Chemical Engineering Science, 1991Abstract A mechanistic model developed based on modification of the concept underlying the classical wake model (CWM), more specifically the generalized wake model, is presented to account for the phase holdup behavior in gas—liquid—solid fluidized beds.

One-dimensional modelling of phase holdups in three-phase stratified flow
International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 1997Abstract This paper reports an investigation of the application of the three-fluid model to estimate phase holdups in three-phase stratified flow. A computer code (PRESBAL) was developed and used to apply the three-fluid model with a variety of assumptions regarding modelling of wall and interface shear stresses. Alternative definitions of equivalent

Fluid maldistribution effects on phase holdups in three-phase fluidized beds
Chemical Engineering Science, 2001Abstract Effects on the phase holdups and overall bed voidage of gas and liquid maldistribution due to partial blockage of the distributor and due to their premixing below the distributor have been determined for three-phase fluidized beds in a 127-mm-diameter column.
