The Cone Phase of Liquid Crystals: Triangular Lattice of Double-Tilt Cylinders [PDF]
We predict the existence of a new defect-lattice phase near the nematic - smectic-C (NC) transition. This tilt- analogue of the blue phase is a lattice of double-tilt cylinders. We discuss the structure and stability of the cone phase.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Stability of TiO2 Phases Studied Using r2SCAN in the Hubbard-Corrected Density Functional Theory
Titanium dioxide is a quintessential transition metal oxide with many technologically important applications. With its richness in phases, it has also been a testing ground for numerous theoretical studies including density functional theory.

Coulomb Correlations and Instability of Spinless Fermion Gas in 1D and 2D
We study the stability of the ordinary Landau Fermi liquid phase for interacting, spinless electrons. We require causality and demand that the Pauli principle be obeyed.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Hybrid Functional Study Rationalizes the Simple Cubic Phase of Calcium at High Pressures
Simple cubic (SC) phase has been long experimentally determined as the high-pressure phase III of elemental calcium (Ca) since 1984. However, recent density functional calculations within semi-local approximation showed that this SC phase is structurally
