Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

High Temperature Superconducting Ferrite Phase Shifter with New Latching Structure [PDF]
Superconductor ferrite phase shifters are attractivefor phased array radar systems. The huge reduction in size andlosses mean that smaller systems are possible.

Magnetic phase transitions in Gd64Sc36 studied using non-contact ultrasonics [PDF]
The speed and attenuation of ultrasound propagation can be used to determine material properties and identify phase transitions. Standard ultrasonic contact techniques are not always convenient due to the necessity of using couplant; however, recently ...

Helical Phase Structure of Radiation from an Electron in Circular Motion
We theoretically show that a single free electron in circular motion radiates an electromagnetic wave possessing helical phase structure, which is closely related to orbital angular momentum carried by it. We experimentally demonstrate it by interference

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Properties of length-apodized phase-shifted lpgs operating at the phase matching turning point
The characteristics of length-apodized phase-shifted fiber optic long period gratings with full and partial nanostructured coatings have been explored theoretically and experimentally.

Chaos Near Structural Phase Transition
Abstract An experimental model of a Duffing oscillator is presented. It consists of a linear inductance, a resistance and a ferroelectric nonlinear capacitance. A computer controlled measuring system recorded quantitatively the phase portrait of this series-resonance circuit.

Quasinormal modes and the phase structure of strongly coupled matter [PDF]
A bstractWe investigate the poles of the retarded Green’s functions of strongly coupled field theories exhibiting a variety of phase structures from a crossover up to different first order phase transitions.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The firing of an action potential by a biological neuron represents a dramatic transition from small-scale linear stochastics (subthreshold voltage fluctuations) to gross-scale nonlinear dynamics (birth of a 1-ms voltage spike). In populations of neurons
