Phases and phase transitions

Physics Today, 1982
In this first sentence of his seminal book “The Physics of Liquid Crystals,” Pierre Gilles de Gennes has succinctly stated the appeal that liquid crystals have for all of us working in this field. The term “liquid crystal,” in fact, refers to a number of distinct states of matter that have structural order intermediate between that of conventional ...

Phases and phase transitions of the sphingolipids

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1995
LIPIDAT is a computerized database providing access to the wealth of information scattered throughout the literature concerning synthetic and biologically derived polar lipid polymorphic and mesomorphic phase behavior. Herein, we present a review of the LIPIDAT data subset referring to sphingolipids together with an analysis of these data.

Phases and phase transitions of the glycoglycerolipids

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1994
LIPIDAT is a computerized database providing access to the wealth of information scattered throughout the literature concerning synthetic and biologically derived polar lipid polymorphic and mesomorphic phase behavior. The database is considered comprehensive for glycerophospholipids, glycoglycerolipids, sphingolipids and natural membrane extracts ...

Phase transition in YbAl3C3

The European Physical Journal B, 2008
Yb-170 Mossbauer spectroscopy, temperature dependent X-ray, magnetisation and specific heat data are presented in the hexagonal intermetallic YbAl3C3, in order to shed light on the isostructural transition occurring near 80K and to investigate the electronic state of the Yb ion above and below the transition.

Suppressing the P2-O2 Phase Transition of Na0.67 Mn0.67 Ni0.33 O2 by Magnesium Substitution for Improved Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Angewandte Chemie, 2016
Room-temperature sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have shown great promise in grid-scale energy storage, portable electronics, and electric vehicles because of the abundance of low-cost sodium. Sodium-based layered oxides with a P2-type layered framework have

Argon Plasma Induced Phase Transition in Monolayer MoS2.

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2017
In this work, we report a facile, clean, controllable and scalable phase engineering technique for monolayer MoS2. We found that weak Ar-plasma bombardment can locally induce 2H→1T phase transition in monolayer MoS2 to form mosaic structures. These 2H→1T

Induced phase transitions in ferroelectrics with diffuse phase transition

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1981
Dielectric, thermal, electrocaloric, elastic, optical, and electromechanical properties of three ferroelectrics with diffuse phase transition (PLZT 8/65/35 ceramics, lead magnesium niobate and strontium barium niobate single crystals) are investigated in dependence on temperature and electric field strength.

Phase Transitions

2012
Phase transitions are introduced using the van der Waals gas as an example. The equations of state are derived from the Helmholtz free energy of the ideal gas. The behavior of this model is analyzed, and an instability leads to a liquid-gas phase transition. The Maxwell construction for the pressure at which a phase transition occurs is derived.
