Abstract Recently developed experimental methods for the generation and diagnostics of nonideal plasma and warm dense matter are reviewed. Modern theoretical methods applied to solve the problem of fluid–fluid phase transitions, including the plasma phase transition, are considered.

By a stretch of imagination we shall identify spirals with systems of interacting particles. Mimicking the formalism of Statistical Mechanics we shall then discover that spirals go through a phase transition as the “temperature” increases. The inverse critical temperature coincides with the box dimension of the spiral.

In Sect. 3.7 we have derived the equilibrium conditions for thermodynamic systems. Those considerations can be further generalized. In the form of a gedanken-experiment, we divided the total system into two fictitious partial systems and therewith created a simple non-equilibrium situation.

Yttrium orthoborate crystallizes in the vaterite-type structure and has two polymorphous forms, viz. a low- und a high temperature one. DTA measurements of YBO3 confirmed a reversible phase transition with a large thermal hysteresis. The phase transition has been accurately characterized by the application of different heating and cooling rates (β ...

Nomenclature of phase transitions
Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1958Discusses the curious situation in which the terminology of chemistry and physics has only five words to describe the six possible transitions between three states of matter.

Transition-when the cervix dilates from about 7 cm. to 10 cm.-is generally considered the most difficult phase of labor and it is at this time that the couple who have learned a psychoprophylactic technique, such as the Lamaze method, face their most stringent test. Control can be precarious.

A Transition Phase for Obstetrics
Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada, 2006After taking a look at the big picture, by means of our November FIGO issue, it is reasonable for us to focus again on domestic issues. The international concerns of women’s health—maternal mortality, perinatal mortality, the scourge of HIV/AIDS, reproductive rights and freedoms, and education—are enormous issues, to be sure.

The physico-chemical characterization of phospholipid interactions is one of the important problems in membrane biology. The research groups of Chapman, van Deenen and Luzzati have shown that systems of phospholipid molecules may exhibit a large variety of organization forms, or phases, depending upon the chemical composition of the molecules, the ...
