EXPERIMENTAL TOXOPLASMOSIS IN PHEASANTS (PHASIANUS COLCHICUS)
Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1994Sixteen 6-mo-old battery-reared ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) were inoculated orally with 10(5) (group A, ME 49 strain, five birds), 10(4) (group B, ME 49 strain, six birds) and 10(4) (group C, GT-1 strain, five birds) Toxoplasma gondii oocysts. The pheasants in groups A and B remained clinically normal.

Liver specific pyruvate kinase in pheasants Phasianus colchicus
International Journal of Biochemistry, 1987While in chickens, the existence of a liver form of pyruvate kinase is controversial, the liver form of pyruvate kinase in pheasants, murres and puffins is electrophoretically distinct from that in muscle, brain, kidney, lung and small intestine. Although the forms in lungs, muscle, heart, brain and small intestine could not be reliably separated by ...

The serum proteins of the pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1972Abstract 1. The serum protein concentration of young adult (24 weeks old) male and female pheasants was 44·1 ± 5·5 mg/ml. Albumin comprised 54·5 ± 10·7 per cent of the total serum protein and the albumin-globulin ratio was 1·48 ± 0·57. 2. In four mature birds (33 and 55 weeks old) serum protein concentration was 49·4–55·9 mg/ml. In three laying

The ecology of Phasianus colchicus colchicus, has been studied in the forest of Gotza-Orman, in river of Nestos, in the year 1988-1995. The greek black-necked pheasant is smaller from the pheasant of black sea. He is omnivourus and its food is usually seeds of cereal, nuts, most parts of vegetation and insects espesially in summer from the chicks ...

Retinal detachment in the pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)
Avian Pathology, 1986Retinal detachment was observed as a cause of blindness in small numbers of reared pheasants in widely separated geographical areas. Lesions were bilateral but asymmetrical in 16 birds. In three pheasants only one eye was affected. Clinical signs were first noticed at 5 weeks of age. Affected birds were blind by the time they were mature. Early lesions

Selenium Toxicity in Breeding Ring-Necked Pheasants (Phasianus colchicus)
Avian Diseases, 2004A flock of breeding ring-necked pheasants received feed with a high selenium content. Within 4 days of eating the toxic feed, the rate of egg production began to decrease, and bird aggression increased. Approximately 12% of the hens died within a week.

Hemoglobins XLV. The Amino Acid Sequence of Pheasant(Phasianus colchicus colchicus)Hemoglobins
Hoppe-Seyler´s Zeitschrift für physiologische Chemie, 1982Pheasant hemoglobin is heterogenous and contains two components: a major one called HbA (70% of total amount) and a minor one called HbD (25% of total amount). HbA contains alpha A-chain, while HbD contains alpha D-chain. The amino acid sequences of both hemoglobins are given.

Infection by Trichophyton mentagrophytes in the pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)
Mycoses, 2009Summary Three young pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) from a poultry-farm were found to be infected by T. mentagrophytes (“granulare” variant), which was isolated from the lesions observed on the neck, around the eyes and near the beek. The clinical aspect suggested a tinea infection.

Mercury in pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) organs in Podravina, Croatia
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2013Since 1995 the concentrations of total mercury were analyzed in the pheasant organs (liver, kidney, brain and muscle) that live freely in an area that was exposed to elevated levels of mercury as a result of industrial activity (mercury contaminated natural gas production and processing which began in 1980).
