Phasor Measurement Unit Diagnosing
2018Based on the global navigation system timestamp an equipment is applied to synchronize the measurement moment in various power buses, which are remote from each other, to measure the current and voltage phasors for the power system control. It is named phasor measurement unit (PMU).

Phasor Measurement Unit and Phasor Data Concentrator Cyber Security
2013Future bulk electric transmission systems will include substation automation, synchrophasor measurement systems, and automated control algorithms which leverage wide area monitoring systems to better control the grid. Prior to installation of new networked devices, utilities should perform cybersecurity testing and develop corrective actions for ...

Comparative testing of synchronized phasor measurement units
IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004., 2005This work reports the result of a comparative testing done on four phasor measurement units (PMU) from different manufacturers. Phase shift and attenuation at fundamental frequency, performance under system balanced and unbalanced conditions and performance under system variable frequency are the issues addressed for this comparative assessment.

A Brief Review on Synchro Phasor Technology and Phasor Measurement Unit
2020In power system monitoring, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system has played an important role by computing the voltage and current signal for a local area. However, when quicker response is needed, phasor measurement unit (PMU) serves as an effective alternative owing to its faster reporting rate. In this paper, a brief review on PMU

Petri net modeling of phasor measurement unit
2017 International Conference on Algorithms, Methodology, Models and Applications in Emerging Technologies (ICAMMAET), 2017The electric grids are complex, large and highly interconnected with numerous generation power stations delivering power to major load centers. This has led to increasing need for real-time monitoring of grids. Wide area monitoring systems (WAMS) equipped with new era information and communication technology provides real-time situational awareness ...

Power system applications for phasor measurement units
IEEE Computer Applications in Power, 1994State-of-the-art technology now permits measurement and analysis of power system performance on a scale not previously possible. Synchronized sampling, derived from the GPS (Global Positioning System), and high accuracy sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters form the basis for a system that can measure the state of the power system at a given instant

Diakoptic State Estimation Using Phasor Measurement Units
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2008This paper presents a diakoptic-based distributed state estimation (SE) algorithm suitable for large-scale power systems. In the proposed approach the large-scale power system is divided into a certain number of subsystems by removing tie line measurements. Based on diakoptic theory, the SE problem is then partitioned into a number of subproblems which

Traceability of calibration for Phasor Measurement Unit
2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012IEEE Standard C37.118.1 defines requirements for the measurement and determination of a Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU). The PMUs must be tested to ensure that all PMUs on the power grid behave the same. In order to meet the requirement of PMU within specified uncertainty, the PMU calibration systems or calibrators must be traceable to known reference ...

Phasor measurement unit using GPRS wireless connectivity
2011 IEEE PES CONFERENCE ON INNOVATIVE SMART GRID TECHNOLOGIES LATIN AMERICA (ISGT LA), 2011This paper describes the development of a phasor measurement unit using data wireless transmission via GPRS. The detailed process in the design and construction of the prototype and the difficulties faced at different stages are presented. The results are finally evaluated using the Total Vector Error (TVE) calculated for each of the testing designs.
