Polyphenolic resin synthesis: optimizing plantain peel biomass as heavy metal adsorbent

open access: yesPolímeros, 2015
Polyphenolic resol resins were obtained from an ethanolic extraction of green plantain peels (Musa paradisiaca) grown in Colombia. A synthesis was then performed by polycondensation in an alkaline pH solution in order to perform research on phenolic ...

A phosphorus‐containing phenolic derivative and its application in benzoxazine resins: Curing behavior, thermal, and flammability properties

open access: yes, 2016
In this work, flame-retardant benzoxazine resins were prepared by copolymerization of bisphenol A based benzoxazine (BA-a) and a phosphorous-containing phenolic derivative (DOPO-HPM).

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

A Versatile Microfluidic Extrusion‐Based Hydrogel Platform for Self‐Organization and Long‐Term Maintenance of Engineered 3D Lymphatic Endothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Microfluidic coaxial extrusion generates size‐controlled 3D lymphatic tubes from primary human dermal lymphatic endothelial cells in a defined four‐component matrix. These engineered vessels self‐organize into stable lymphatic endothelium, maintain selective macromolecular permeability for 30 days, and enable direct comparison with blood endothelial ...

A Mechanistic Study of Bio‐Based Nanotemplated Carbon Nanofibers Derived From Water Processable Lignin Blends for Sustainable Energy Storage Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
As‐spun carbon materials produced from Lignosulfonate, gelatin, and alginate, selected for water solubility, and ability to produce templated sustainable carbon nanostructures. Gelatin and alginate are sacrificial during thermal processing, allowing the production of engineered high surface area nanostructures, which are further characterized for ...

Phenolic-resin-eating superworms as a platform for discovering microorganisms that degrade phenolic thermosets

open access: yesPolymer Testing
Electronic waste (e-waste) is associated with escalating problems that necessitate innovative solutions for managing phenolic resins, which are prevalent components of discarded printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Batch and Continuous Flow Adsorption of Phenolic Compounds from Olive Mill Wastewater: A Comparison between Nonionic and Ion Exchange Resins

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2016
The goals of this work were (i) to compare two anion ion exchange resins (IRA958 Cl and IRA67) and a nonionic resin (XAD16) in terms of phenolic compounds adsorption capacity from olive mill wastewater and (ii) to compare the adsorption capacity of the ...

Template effect in caesium selective phenolic resins

open access: yes, 1998
Two new phenolic resins have been synthesised by alkaline polycondensation of resorcinol and acetaldehyde using template polymerisation. The extraction properties of the resins have been evaluated in competitive extraction and show a selectivity in ...

Shaping Carbon Nitrides for Advanced Macrostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review examines how carbon nitride can be shaped through a range of printing and interfacial assembly methods. By bringing together additive manufacturing and liquid–liquid structuring concepts, carbon nitride is moving beyond its traditional powder‐based photocatalyst form toward digitally designed robust macroscale architectures with high design
