A biomimetic catalytic aerobic functionalization of phenols.

Angewandte Chemie, 2014
The importance of aromatic C-O, C-N, and C-S bonds necessitates increasingly efficient strategies for their formation. Herein, we report a biomimetic approach that converts phenolic C-H bonds into C-O, C-N, and C-S bonds at the sole expense of reducing ...

Diverse coordination modes in solvated alkali metal phenolates: The crystal structures of rubidium phenolate·3 phenol and cesium phenolate·2 phenol

Inorganica Chimica Acta, 2007
Abstract Two alkali metal phenolate/phenol complexes are reported. The cations are pseudo-octahedrally coordinated by oxygen atoms and the π-systems of phenolates and solvent phenols. The ratio of phenolate/phenol determines whether the oxygen atom of the phenolate participates in the coordination of the metal.

Phenol Poisoning

Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians, 1979
A case report of survival after severe ingestion of phenol is described. The patient developed coma, respiratory arrest 30 minutes postingestion, hypotension, ventricular arrhythmias, metabolic acidosis, seizures, selective elevation of uric acid and gastrointestinal disturbances. Treatment consisted of gastric lavage, olive oil, activated charcoal and

Extraction of Phenols from Water with Functionalized Ionic Liquids

, 2014
A series of hydroxyl-, benzyl-, and dialkyl-functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) were synthesized, and their extraction abilities for phenol, resorcinol, p-nitrophenol, guaiacol, and o-cresol were investigated.

Phenols in the plant and in man. The potential for possible nutritional enhancement of the diet by modifying the phenols content or profile

, 2000
There is growing recognition that many phenolic secondary metabolites present in foodstuffs may possibly exert beneficial effects on human health. This may to some degree be mediated via antioxidant actions, but a range of more specific pharmacological ...

Phenolic Resins

1989
The phenolic resins are considered to be the first polymeric products produced commercially from simple compounds of low molecular weight. Phenolic resins continue to be used for a wide variety of applications, such as molding powders, laminating resins, adhesives, binders, surface coatings, and impregnants.

The vibrational spectra of phenol and phenol-OD

Spectrochimica Acta, 1960
Raman spectra (liquid phase) with depolarization measurements and infrared spectra (vapor, solution, liquid and solid phases) in the 300–3800 cm−1 region are reported for phenol and phenol-OD. A complete vibrational assignment for phenol is presented and a value of 3·37 kcal/mole has been determined for the barrier to internal rotation about the C—O ...

Wine Phenolics

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2002
Abstract: Wine contains many phenolic substances, most of which originate in the grape berry. The phenolics have a number of important functions in wine, affecting the tastes of bitterness and astringency, especially in red wine. Second, the color of red wine is caused by phenolics.
