Inhibition of Heparin-induced Tau Filament Formation by Phenothiazines, Polyphenols, and Porphyrins*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2005
Tau protein is the major component of the intraneuronal filamentous inclusions that constitute defining neuropathological characteristics of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies.

Quantitative Analysis of Fluorescent Sensor Arrays

open access: yesAnalysis &Sensing, Accepted Article.
Fluorescent sensor arrays address the limitations of a single sensor by leveraging multiple sensing elements to generate unique response patterns for each of the analyte of interest. This approach has emerged as a powerful tool for identifying and analysing intricate chemical and biological environments using various multivariate analytical tools such ...

Emergence of Staphylococcus aureus Resistance to Antimicrobial Peptides Nisin, NZ2114 and Bacitracin Involves Multiple Phenotypic Changes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The AMP‐induced mutant Staphylococcus aureus strain nzR showed increased resistance, five gene mutations, and decreased surface anion levels. AMPs affect the NDH‐2 protein encoded by ndh gene inhibiting the growth of S. aureus. The deletion of the ndh gene promotes the development of AMPs resistance.

Interaction of phenothiazines, stilbenes and flavonoids with multidrug resistance-associated transporters, P-glycoprotein and MRP1.

open access: yesActa Biochimica Polonica, 2011
Multidrug resistance (MDR) of cancer cells poses a serious obstacle to successful chemotherapy. The overexpression of multispecific ATP-binding cassette transporters appears to be the main mechanism of MDR.

A Review of the Use of Chemical Stabilisation Methods for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesBattery Energy, EarlyView.
The review reveals that while chemical stabilisation techniques for recycling EOL LIBs are widely used, many studies overlook safety risks, focusing on quick, low‐cost methods. Only a few studies address the associated hazards, highlighting the need for safer, well‐understood stabilisation processes in battery recycling. ABSTRACT The increasing amounts

Single‐Ion Conductive Bacterial Cellulose Membrane Towards High Performance Lithium‐Oxygen Batteries

open access: yesBattery Energy, EarlyView.
Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a natural polymer with ultrafine nanofibrous network. BC membrane has excellent affinity to organic electrolyte, high ionic conductivity and inherent ion selectivity, which can transfer lithium ions and suppress the shuttling of anions across the membrane, available for iodide‐assisted lithium‐oxygen batteries (LOBs ...

Effects of typical and atypical antipsychotic drugs on gene expression profiles in the liver of schizophrenia subjects

open access: yesBMC Psychiatry, 2009
Background Although much progress has been made on antipsychotic drug development, precise mechanisms behind the action of typical and atypical antipsychotics are poorly understood.

Identification of phenothiazine derivatives as UHM-binding inhibitors of early spliceosome assembly

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
So far only a few compounds have been reported as splicing modulators. Here, the authors combine high-throughput screening, chemical synthesis, NMR, X-ray crystallography with functional studies and develop phenothiazines as inhibitors for the U2AF ...

Chemosensitization by phenothiazines in human lung cancer cells: impaired resolution of γH2AX and increased oxidative stress elicit apoptosis associated with lysosomal expansion and intense vacuolation

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2011
Chemotherapy resistance poses severe limitations on the efficacy of anti-cancer medications. Recently, the notion of using novel combinations of ‘old’ drugs for new indications has garnered significant interest.

Catalysis in Chemical Modification of Proteins

open access: yesChemCatChem, EarlyView.
Catalytic principles of synthetic organic chemistry have been increasingly applied to chemical modification of proteins during the recent years. This review article describes how seven types of catalytic systems —electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, metal catalysis, acid catalysis, organocatalysis, supramolecular catalysis, and heterogeneous catalysis ...
