Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

Genetic parameter estimates for plasma oxidative status traits in slaughter pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of sex and to estimate genetic parameters for several traits related to plasma oxidative status in slaughter pigs, i.e., ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP), concentrations of a-tocopherol and ...

Phenotypic variability of growing cellular populations [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2007
The dynamics and diversity of proliferating cellular populations are governed by the interplay between the growth and death rates among the various phenotypes within a colony. In addition, epigenetic multistability can cause cells to spontaneously switch from one phenotype to another.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

High phenotypic variability in Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria
Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker is a genetic prion disease and the most common mutation is p.Pro102Leu. We report clinical, molecular and neuropathological data of seven individuals, belonging to two unrelated Brazilian kindreds, carrying the p.Pro102Leu.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Joint analysis of phenotypic and molecular diversity provides new insights on the genetic variability of the brazilian physic nut germplasm bank

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2013
The genetic variability of the Brazilian physic nut (Jatropha curcas) germplasm bank (117 accessions) was assessed using a combination of phenotypic and molecular data. The joint dissimilarity matrix showed moderate correlation with the original matrices

Variability of main ornamental traits of common cosmos ( Cosmos bipinnatus L.)

open access: yesОвощи России, 2012
Variability of seven main ornamental traits of the tall-growing, multicolored cultivar «Picotee» ( Cosmos bipinnatus L.) depending on type of growing (through seedlings or direct sowing) was studied. High variability of studied traits, especially such as

ADAPTIVE POTENTIAL AND PHENOTYPIC VARIABILITY OF RIBES SPECIES IN THE LOWER VOLGA REGION

open access: yesSiberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture, 2022
Background. The climate, soil, and hydrology of the Volgograd Region complicate agricultural work. The ever-greater intensification of agriculture has brought substantial anthropogenic change upon the natural terrain in the agricultural areas of the ...
