Phenotypic and genetic variance: a systems approach to the liver

Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2016
Elucidating the entire complexity of biological functions in the liver is vital to understand its key role in the progression of complex diseases. A new mouse study integrates complementary '–omics' data across various environmental states using the liver as a platform for multiomics analysis and identifies new mechanisms in hepatic mitochondrial ...

Dependence of Phenotypic Variance in Body Size on Environmental Quality

The American Naturalist, 2008
The recent "overhead threshold" model for optimal age and body size at maturity (Day and Rowe 2002 ) predicts that phenotypic variability in adult body size will be low under inferior environmental quality and will increase with improving conditions.

The distribution of genetic variance across phenotypic space and the response to selection

Molecular Ecology, 2014
AbstractThe role of adaptation in biological invasions will depend on the availability of genetic variation for traits under selection in the new environment. Although genetic variation is present for most traits in most populations, selection is expected to act on combinations of traits, not individual traits in isolation.

Alteration of Phenotypic Variances by the Endophyte of Tall Fescue

Crop Science, 1994
Widespread infection of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreber) by the endophytic fungus (Acremonium coenophudum Morgan‐Jones and Gams) is responsible for poor performance of grazing animals. Because infection results in changes in phenotypic means for numerous traits, changes in phenotypic variances could also be a result of infection.

Selection of Stable Cultivars Using Phenotypic Variances

Crop Science, 1996
Genotype‐environment interactions reduce the correlation between phenotype and genotype and decrease selection progress. Type 1 stability measures (simple variance across environments S2i and related coefficient of variability CVi) are biased because they do not distinguish the effects of locations and years.

Individual Phenotypic Variances in a Family With Thiel–Behnke Corneal Dystrophy

Cornea, 2012
To diagnose Thiel-Behnke dystrophy, an autosomal dominant disease of the anterior basement membrane/Bowman membrane complex and corneal stroma, currently relies primarily on the overall clinical presentation of patient complaints, inheritance pattern, and physical appearance of the corneal findings on slit-lamp examination. Key challenges to accurately
