Effect of large neutral amino acids treatment on blood phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan levels in adolescent and young adult PKU patients

open access: yesTrends in Pediatrics
Objective: We aimed to evaluate the change in phenylalanine (Phe), Tyrosine (Tyr), and Tryptophan (Trp) blood levels in classical PKU patients treated with large neutral amino acids (LNAA) supplementation.

Conformational Snapshots of CydDC in a Native Lipid Bilayer Coupling Heme Transport to Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phylogenetic and biochemical analyses of the heme transporter CydDC reveal its functional conservation throughout bacterial evolution and demonstrate its unique asymmetric allosteric mechanism. Furthermore, impairment of CydDC function directly affects bacterial antibiotic resistance and likely compromises antibiotic efficacy through drug efflux.

Transient brain structure changes after high phenylalanine exposure in adults with phenylketonuria.

open access: yes
Phenylketonuria is a rare metabolic disease resulting from a deficiency of the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase. Recent cross-sectional evidence suggests that early-treated adults with phenylketonuria exhibit alterations in cortical grey matter compared ...

Relationship Between Gut Microbiota and Phenylalanine Levels: A Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen
The specific members of the gut microbiota linked to phenylketonuria remain to be identified. This study aimed to assess the association between gut microbiota on phenylalanine (Phe) levels using a two‐sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach ...

Spin‐Selective Oxygen Evolution in Chiral Molecule‐Intercalated Layered Double Hydroxides

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This hybrid electrocatalyst utilizes chiral phenylalanine intercalation within layered double hydroxides to boost oxygen evolution. Acting as a spin filter via the chiral‐induced spin selectivity effect, the material directs electron transfer along a lower‐energy pathway.

Successful Management of Two Consecutive Pregnancies With Maternal–Fetal Phenylketonuria: Lessons From Clinical Practice

open access: yesJIMD Reports
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by a deficiency of phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), leading to the accumulation of phenylalanine (Phe) and an increased risk of developmental disorders.

Identification of a Nonribosomal Peptide Analog With Activity Against Multiple Gram‐Positive Bacteria via a Synthetic Bioinformatic Natural Product Discovery Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The genome of Rhodococcus erythropolis D‐1 was analyzed by bioinformatic tools to mine a novel nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) gene cluster. A nonribosomal peptide analog ZURJC5 associated with the NRPS was chemically synthesized. Through structure‐activity relationship studies, ZURJC28 was ultimately obtained and showed antibacterial activity ...

Conformational selection turns on phenylalanine hydroxylase

open access: yes, 2018
Phenylalanine hydroxylase catalyzes a critical step in the phenylalanine catabolic pathway, and impairment of the human enzyme is linked to phenylketonuria.
