Bioactivity Profiles of Progressively Ring‐Fluorinated Cyclohexyl Motifs in the WKYMVm Peptide as Formylpeptide FPR2 Agonists and in Keto‐Piperazines as Antitrypanosome Agents

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
All‐cis‐fluorinated cyclohexyl motifs with progressively increasing levels of fluorine are introduced into the WKYMVm peptide and a class of keto‐piperazine derivatives and assayed against the FPR2 receptor or the parasite Trypanosoma brucei, respectively.

ThiF‐Like Enzyme Chemistry in Primary and Secondary Metabolism

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
ThiF‐like enzymes are a widespread protein family found in disparate biosynthetic pathways. They are unified by their use of an NTP to modify a carboxylate, generating an activated species prone to nucleophilic addition. This common intermediate is then targeted by diverse nucleophiles, including persulfide or amino acid side chains, to yield a variety

Enhancing Antigen Recognition of Living Cells by Site‐Specific VHH Antibody Conjugation

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
Site‐specific incorporation of azido‐phenylalanine (AzF) into antibodies enables precise conjugation, allowing anti‐mCherry variable domains of heavy‐chain‐only antibodies (VHHs) to be aligned and immobilized on dibenzylcyclooctyne (DBCO)‐coated glass via click chemistry.

Structural and Spectroscopic Insights into Catalytic Intermediates of a [NiFe]‐hydrogenase from Group 3

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
Hydrogenases catalyze reversible H2 production and are potential models for renewable energy catalysts. Here, the full redox landscape of a group 3 [NiFe]‐hydrogenase from methanothermococcus thermolithotrophicus is elucidated, resembling group 1 enzymes.

Effect of Genotype on the Properties of Flours and Protein Isolates Derived From Wrinkled and Round Peas

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives This study evaluated the effect of seed shape on the composition, functional, and quality properties of pea flours and protein isolates. Wrinkled‐seed (WPAs) and round‐seed (RPA) pea accessions were selected from a genome‐wide association study panel.

Sequence‐Dependent Heterotypic Assemblies of Intrinsically Disordered Peptides

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Two oppositely charged intrinsically disordered peptides (IDPs) coassemble into heterotypic nanofibers. Homochiral mixtures (L/L IDPs) form homogeneous, aligned bundles with the more positive IDP. Heterochiral mixtures (L/D IDPs) yield heterogeneous, twisted bundles as positive‐IDP content increases.

Remote Conformational Control of a Chloride‐Binding Site

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Chloride‐binding foldamers have been developed that have stereogenic C‐ and N‐terminal groups separated by a helical α‐aminoisobutyric acid (Aib) body. Chloride affinity is sensitive to the sense and strength of screw‐sense induction by each N‐terminal residue.

Synthesis of α‐Pentafluorosulfanylated‐β2,3‐Amino Esters

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
De novo α‐SF5‐β2,3‐amino esters are now accessible through a straightforward aza‐Michael reaction using a series of newly developed (E)‐α‐SF5‐α,β‐unsaturated esters. Two new, highly functionalized, contiguous tertiary stereocenters are formed with diastereodivergence governed by the choice of solvent and/or base.
