Production of Long Chain Fatty Alcohols Found in Bumblebee Pheromones by Yarrowia lipolytica

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Fatty alcohols (FA-OH) are aliphatic unbranched primary alcohols with a chain of four or more carbon atoms. Besides potential industrial applications, fatty alcohols have important biological functions as well. In nature, fatty alcohols are produced as a

Dual positive and negative regulation of GPCR signaling by GTP hydrolysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) regulate a variety of intracellular pathways through their ability to promote the binding of GTP to heterotrimeric G proteins. Regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins increase the intrinsic GTPase activity of G-

Alarm pheromone processing in the ant brain: an evolutionary perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2010
Social insects exhibit sophisticated communication by means of pheromones, one example of which is the use of alarm pheromones to alert nestmates for colony defense.

ASPECTS REGARDING MONITORING OF THE PEST TUTA ABSOLUTA (TOMATO LEAF MINER) ON TOMATO CROPS UNDER HIGH PLASTIC TUNNELS AND EFFICACY OF SOME INSECTICIDES TESTED FOR ITS CONTROL [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Horticulture, 2020
Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a pest native from South America, which was first reported in Romania in 2009 (Satu Mare). Among the vegetable species, tomatoes are the main host of the pest, but can also be found on potato, black

Investigating Evaluation Measures in Ant Colony Algorithms for Learning Decision Tree Classifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ant-Tree-Miner is a decision tree induction algorithm that is based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) meta- heuristic. Ant-Tree-Miner-M is a recently introduced extension of Ant-Tree-Miner that learns multi-tree classification models.

Semiochemical responsive olfactory sensory neurons are sexually dimorphic and plastic

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Understanding how genes and experience work in concert to generate phenotypic variability will provide a better understanding of individuality. Here, we considered this in the main olfactory epithelium, a chemosensory structure with over a thousand ...

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.
