Generation cycles in experimental populations of a multivoltine insect

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Although theory suggests various mechanisms by which environmental and ecological factors may drive generational fluctuations, our field‐cage experiment is the first to demonstrate how internal dynamics and external disturbances jointly produce synchronised, large‐scale outbreak cycles.

The predatory behavior of ants: an impressive panoply of morphological adaptations

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This review focuses on predation in ants, showing the wide diversity of cases from solitary foraging to group hunting tactics, as well as the evolution of mandible shape frequently adapted to capture specific prey. Although most ants are generalist feeders, finding their sugary substances directly on plants or indirectly via sap‐sucking insects, some ...

Sex pheromone traps for detection of Cydalima perspectalis (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) in Hyrcanian forests, Iran

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2019
The efficacy of sex pheromone traps for detection of Cydalima perspectalis (Walker) (Lepidoptera Crambidae) was assessed in 2017 in Cheshmeh-Bolbol Box Reservoir (Golestan province, Iran).

1-octadecene, A Female Produced Aggregation Pheromone of the Coffee White Stem Borer (Xylotrechus quadripes)

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2023
Coffee white stem borer, Xylotrechus quadripes is a serious insect pest of coffee across the world. Pheromone traps baited with male produced 2-hydroxy- 3-decanone (2H3D) attracted females, and also males.

Mating Success of Gypsy Moth (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) Females in Southern Wisconsin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mating success of laboratory-reared gypsy moth Lymantria dispar (L.) females exposed for 24 hr on tree boles and its relationship to male moth counts in pheromone-baited traps was studied in southern Wisconsin. The relationship between mating probability

Traslucent pheromone traps increase trapping efficiency of ambrosia beetle Megaplatypus mutatus

open access: yesCrop Protection, 2011
Abstract Megaplatypus mutatus (= Platypus mutatus ) is an ambrosia beetle native to South America. Unlike most ambrosia beetles, it attacks only living trees, penetrating the xylem of its host by boring long tunnels. These galleries cause severe stem-breakage and mortality in commercial poplar plantations.

Silencing of juvenile hormone‐related genes through RNA interference leads to molt failure and high mortality in the spongy moth

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The feasibility of using RNA interference to control the globally important quarantine pest, the spongy moth. Targeting genes related to JHs play an important role in the growth and development of insects. First, the open reading frames (ORFs) of Ldjhamt and Ldjheh were identified and characterized, and the target genes were cloned and double‐stranded ...
