PHEV fleet data collection and analysis
2009 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2009This paper deals with a project related to Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles fleet studies. The project is part of a broader research consortium underway at Ohio State University's Center for Automotive Research called SMART@CAR. Main goals are to create and maintain a database containing all charging and duty cycle data collected from a growing PHEV ...

Statistical analysis of PHEV fleet data
2010 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2010The added load that a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) fleet imposes on the existing electrical grid is of great concern to the electric utility industry. In this paper, analysis was done for a PHEV fleet which consists of 6 PHEVs that were instrumented using data loggers for a period of approximately one year.

AC Charging PHEV by Electrical Grid
Power and Energy Systems and Applications, 2012Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is the promising solution for low greenhouse gas emissions in transportation. A main energy storage system, commonly battery pack, located on the vehicle is the only supply for the vehicle to run in all-electric mode. The electricity for recharging the battery pack usually comes from the electrical grid.

Virtual metering for Virtual PHEV aggregation
2012 16th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference, 2012Technically sustainable solutions for integration of (PH)EVs in Smart Grid emerge as an important concern. We discuss the need for introduction of Virtual Aggregations supported by implementation of Virtual Meters in power system structures. We advocate our proposal with an evaluation of scenarios based on realistic data.

Power System Level Impacts of PHEVs
2009 42nd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2009This paper presents investigations into various aspects of how plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) could impact the electric power system. The investigation is focused on impacts on the power system infrastructure and impacts on the primary fuel utilizations due to PHEV charging.

EV and PHEV Battery Technologies
2013It is well-known today that batteries are indeed the main stumbling block to driving electric vehicles. In fact, the common issues related to lithium rechargeable cells can be summed up by one simple topic: cell equalization. Typically, a battery of a HEV consists of a long string of cells (typically 100 cells, providing a total of about 360 V), where ...

PV powered smart charging station for PHEVs
Renewable Energy, 2014Abstract A huge inrush of PHEVs is envisioned in the future. There is a growing risk that, this proliferation in the number of PHEVs will trigger extreme surges in demand while charging them during rush hours. To mitigate this impact, a smart charging station is proposed in which the charging of the PHEVs is controlled in such a way that the impact ...

The PHEV Charging Infrastructure Planning (PCIP) Problem
International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2010Increasing debates over a gasoline independent future and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has led to a surge in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) being developed around the world. The majority of PHEV related research has been directed at improving engine and battery operations, studying future PHEV impacts on the grid, and ...

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
2020Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are nothing but a mixture of an electric vehicle and a conventional vehicle. Its battery can be charged externally. It has the benefits of both worlds. It is as energy conserving as the electric vehicles and as efficient as the conventional vehicles. But to know more about the plug-in hybrid, we must know when and where
