Warmth Centrality in Social Cognitive Networks of Fairness Reputation Across Players in the Ultimatum and Dictator Games

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences
Fairness reputation refers to the perception of others’ adherence to fair norms based on their behaviors. However, previous studies often rely on simple correlation and regression analyses without comparing cognition across roles in the ultimatum game ...

Critical realist philosophy for science [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
i, 95 leaves ; 28 cm.This paper considers the philosophy of science that is central to Critical Realism (CR). Following a discussion of the foundational transcendental arguments of the movement, it reviews stratification, emergence, and the possibility ...

Teaching philosophy of science to scientists : Why, what and how

open access: yes, 2014
This paper provides arguments to philosophers, scientists, administrators and students for why science students should be instructed in a mandatory, custom-designed, interdisciplinary course in the philosophy of science. The argument begins by diagnosing

Entropy Decoding the Fundamental Law of Phase Competition in Glass Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We validate the integration of intermetallic and eutectic phases as initial phases for composition design. The phase competition mechanism in glass formation is quantitatively clarified based on the melting entropy of competing phases. Glass‐forming ability is modulated by tuning phase competition via the melting entropy of initial phases.

Constitutive or regulative principles? The Kantian legacy for contemporary philosophy of science

open access: yes, 2014
Kant’s philosophy of science is often taken to be straightforwardly refuted by the development of modern science and mathematics. I identify two ways in which key Kantian insights can be defended in contemporary physics: the first—associated with Michael

Beyond Molecular Determinism: State‐Convergent Polymerization as a Functional Design Principle Under Chemical Complexity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces state‐convergent polymerization (SCP), a polymerization framework in which chemically diverse reaction pathways converge toward a reproducible functional polymeric state rather than a defined molecular structure. Using melanin and polydopamine as exemplars, SCP explains how robust polymer functions emerge under chemical and ...

The Need for a Revolution in the Philosophy of Science

open access: yes, 2002
There is a need to bring about a revolution in the philosophy of science, interpreted to be both the academic discipline, and the official view of the aims and methods of science upheld by the scientific community.

RRAM Variability Harvesting for CIM‐Integrated TRNG

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a compute‐in‐memory‐compatible true random number generator that harvests intrinsic cycle‐to‐cycle variability from a 1T1R RRAM array. Parallel entropy extraction enables high‐throughput bit generation without dedicated circuits. This approach achieves NIST‐compliant randomness and low per‐bit energy, offering a scalable hardware

Emerging Memory and Device Technologies for Hardware‐Accelerated Model Training and Inference

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This review investigates the suitability of various emerging memory technologies as compute‐in‐memory hardware for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Distinct requirements for training‐ and inference‐centric computing are discussed, spanning device physics, materials, and system integration.
