Polarized nuclear target based on parahydrogen induced polarization

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss a novel concept of a polarized nuclear target for accelerator fixed-target scattering experiments, which is based on parahydrogen induced polarization (PHIP). One may be able to reach a 33% free-proton polarization in the ethane molecule.

Maternal nutrition as a key determinant of placental and developing blood–brain barrier xenobiotic protective functions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Suboptimal maternal nutrition alters placental and developing blood–brain barrier (BBB) protective function and is associated with increased fetal brain vulnerability. In the placenta, nutritional adversity may reduce the exchange surface area and promote meta‐inflammation, compromising barrier efficiency in a model‐ and context ...

PhIP exposure in rodents produces neuropathology potentially relevant to Alzheimer's disease.

open access: yesToxicology, 2020
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a public health crisis due debilitating cognitive symptoms and lack of curative treatments, in the context of increasing prevalence. Thus, it is critical to identify modifiable risk factors. High levels of meat consumption may

Broadening the PHIP-Associated Neurodevelopmental Phenotype

open access: yesChildren
Background: Monoallelic damaging variants in PHIP (MIM*612870), encoding the Pleckstrin Homology Domain Interacting Protein, have been associated with a novel neurodevelopmental disorder, also termed Chung–Jansen syndrome (CHUJANS, MIM#617991). Most of the described individuals show developmental delay (DD)/intellectual disability (ID), obesity ...

Schnelle RASER‐MRT

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 10, 2 March 2026.
Schnelle RASER‐MRT ermöglicht Bildgebung ohne RF‐Anregung.

Rapid RASER MRI

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 10, 2 March 2026.
Rapid RASER MRI allows for image acquisition without RF excitation. Instead, a population inversion on the nuclear spins is generated by SABRE hyperpolarization, which allows for self‐excitation through the RASER approach. When the desired transverse magnetization is built‐up, conventional EPI encoding is triggered to record the image.

Chronic exposure to combined carcinogens enhances breast cell carcinogenesis with mesenchymal and stem-like cell properties. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer affecting women in North America and Europe. More than 85% of breast cancers are sporadic and attributable to long-term exposure to small quantities of multiple carcinogens.

Biomonitoring PhIP, a Potential Prostatic Carcinogen, in the Hair of Healthy Men of African and European Ancestry

open access: yesToxics
Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs), formed during the cooking of meat, are potential human carcinogens, underscoring the need for long-lived biomarkers to assess exposure and cancer risk.
