Characterisation of putative novel tick viruses and zoonotic risk prediction
Tick‐borne viruses remain a substantial zoonotic risk worldwide, so knowledge of the diversity of tick viruses has potential health consequences. Through data mining and bioinformatic analyses of more than 37,800 public meta‐genomic and ‐transcriptomic data sets, we found five putative novel Alphatetra‐like viruses, four putative novel Orthomyxo‐like ...

Transmission Dynamics of Punique Virus in Tunisia
A novel phlebovirus, Punique virus (PUNV), was discovered and isolated in 2008 from sandflies from Northern Tunisia. PUNV is now classified as a unique member of the Punique phlebovirus species within the Phlebovirus genus in the Phenuiviridae family ...

Tick‐borne virus detection in livestock and slaughterhouse animals has recently surged in the United States and Europe. Although cases of patients with tick‐borne illnesses have been reported in Korea, food contamination from tick‐borne viruses has yet to be investigated.

The distribution, epidemiology, and socioeconomic impact of Rift Valley fever (RVF) and West Nile (WN) viruses are poorly known in areas of sub‐Saharan countries like Ethiopian pastoral region. The human and livestock density in the area has increased greatly in recent years, but little work has been done on arboviral diseases and their potential ...

The community’s awareness of the prevalence and impact of zoonotic diseases has been significantly underestimated, leading to insufficient implementation of control measures. This study was carried out in Northern Tanzania between 2019 and 2023 to investigate zoonotic parasites and the risks associated with human activities that contribute to zoonotic ...

Molecular identification of novel phlebovirus sequences in European ticks
In recent years the number of newly described tick-borne phleboviruses has been steadily growing. Some of these novel viruses are highly pathogenic in humans, e.g. the Heartland and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus. We aimed to analyse ticks sampled across Europe to investigate the diversity of phleboviruses using a comprehensive PCR ...

Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, South Korea, 2012
We report a retrospectively identified fatal case of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) in South Korea from 2012. SFTS virus was isolated from the stored blood of the patient.

Genetic characterization of Bhanja virus and Palma virus, two tick-borne phleboviruses [PDF]
The genomes of Bhanja virus (BHAV) and Palma virus (PALV) two tick-borne viruses hitherto grouped into the Bhanja virus antigenic complex of the Bunyaviridae were determined by pyrosequencing.

Novel phlebovirus detected in Haemaphysalis parva ticks in a Greek island
During the last decade the number of novel tick-borne phleboviruses has increased rapidly, especially after the identification of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome and Heartland viruses which can cause severe disease in humans. A novel virus, Antigone virus was recently detected in ticks collected from the mainland of Greece.
