AudVowelConsNet: A phoneme-level based deep CNN architecture for clinical depression diagnosis

open access: yesMachine Learning with Applications, 2020
Depression is a common and serious mood disorder that negatively affects the patient’s capacity of functioning normally in daily tasks. Speech is proven to be a vigorous tool in depression diagnosis. Research in psychiatry concentrated on performing fine-

The use of wavelet transforms in phoneme recognition [PDF]

open access: yes4th International Conference on Spoken Language Processing (ICSLP 1996), 1996
The study investigates the usefulness of wavelet transforms in phoneme recognition. Both discrete wavelet transforms (DWT) and sampled continuous wavelet transforms (SCWT) are tested. The wavelet transform is used as a part of the front-end processor which extracts feature vectors for a speaker-independent HMM-based phoneme recognizer.

Contrastive auto-encoder for phoneme recognition [PDF]

open access: yes2014 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2014
Speech data typically contains task irrelevant information lying within features. Specifically, phonetic information, speaker characteristic information, emotional information and noise are always mixed together and tend to impair one another for certain task.

Preliminary evaluation of computer-assisted home training for French cochlear implant recipients.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
For French cochlear implant (CI) recipients, in-person clinical auditory rehabilitation is typically provided during the first few years post-implantation. However, this is often inconvenient, it requires substantial time resources and can be problematic

Recognition of Emotions in Mexican Spanish Speech: An Approach Based on Acoustic Modelling of Emotion-Specific Vowels

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
An approach for the recognition of emotions in speech is presented. The target language is Mexican Spanish, and for this purpose a speech database was created. The approach consists in the phoneme acoustic modelling of emotion-specific vowels.

Advancing Age Modulates Associations Between Cognitive Impairment and Brain Volumes in Early MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Cognitive impairment is common in multiple sclerosis (MS), but manifestations following the first demyelinating event are relatively unexplored. We investigated cross‐sectional associations between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)–derived brain volumes and the presence of cognitive impairment outcomes five years after the first ...

Recurrent neural networks for phoneme recognition [PDF]

open access: yesProceeding of Fourth International Conference on Spoken Language Processing. ICSLP '96, 1996
This paper deals with recurrent neural networks of multilayer perceptron type which are well-suited for speech recognition, specially for phoneme recognition. The ability of these networks has been investigated by phoneme recognition experiments using a number of Japanese words uttered by a native male speaker in a quiet environment.

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions and Choroid Plexus Volume at Diagnosis Are Associated With Cognitive Progression Independent of Relapse and MRI Activity in Early Relapsing–Remitting Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Paramagnetic rim lesions (PRLs) and choroid plexus (CP) enlargement reflect smoldering inflammation in multiple sclerosis. Their role in cognitive progression remains unexplored. Eighty‐seven early relapsing–remitting MS patients were enrolled at diagnosis and followed longitudinally.
