Coherent phonon Rabi oscillations with a high frequency carbon nanotube phonon cavity
Phonon-cavity electromechanics allows the manipulation of mechanical oscillations similar to photon-cavity systems. Many advances on this subject have been achieved in various materials. In addition, the coherent phonon transfer (phonon Rabi oscillations)

Angular Momentum of Phonons and Einstein-de Haas Effect
We study angular momentum of phonons in a magnetic crystal. In the presence of a spin-phonon interaction, we obtain a nonzero angular momentum of phonons, which is an odd function of magnetization.

Plasmon-enhanced electron-phonon coupling in Dirac surface states of the thin-film topological insulator Bi2Se3 [PDF]
Raman measurements of a Fano-type surface phonon mode associated with Dirac surface states (SS) in Bi2Se3 topological insulator thin films allowed an unambiguous determination of the electron-phonon coupling strength in Dirac SS as a function of film ...

With the advent of new technologies, the requirements for the sources of reference vibrations are becoming more stringent. They must be compact, quickly reach frequency, operate in a wide temperature range and have a small relative frequency drift in the

In nanostructures, phonon confinement could lead to better control of phonon-electron coupling and thermal properties. Here, the authors use light scattering spectroscopy to measure acoustic phonons confinement in individual free-standing nanowires ...

The Luminescence Hypothesis of Olfaction
A new hypothesis for the mechanism of olfaction is presented. It begins with an odorant molecule binding to an olfactory receptor. This is followed by the quantum biology event of inelastic electron tunneling as has been suggested with both the vibration

The effect of electron-phonon (e-ph) coupling on thermal transport across metal-nonmetal interfaces is yet to be completely understood. In this paper, we use a series of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with e-ph coupling effect included by Langevin ...

Phonon thermodynamics versus electron-phonon models [PDF]
Applying the path integral formalism we study the equilibrium thermodynamics of the phonon field both in the Holstein and in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger models. The anharmonic cumulant series, dependent on the peculiar source currents of the {\it e-ph} models, have been computed versus temperature in the case of a low energy oscillator.

Nanoscale Friction: Phonon Contributions for Single and Multiple Contacts
A generic model has been developed to simulate the effect of phonon interactions during nanoscale sliding with an incommensurate interface. A rigid slider or array of sliders is translated across a 3D elastic slab whose mass elements are harmonically ...

Two-dimensional van der Waals materials exhibit particularly strong excitonic effects, which causes them to be an exceptionally interesting platform for the investigation of exciton physics.
