Mitochondria‐Associated Endoplasmic Reticulum Membranes in Health and Diseases

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 10, October 2025.
As pivotal regulators in diverse physiological and pathological processes, mitochondria‐associated endoplasmic reticulum membranes (MAMs) are critically involved in both health and diseases, including cancers, neurodegenerative disorders, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases.

Revisiting Cholesterol‐Lowering Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods: Mechanistic Insights Into Cholesterol Homeostasis and Gut Microbiota

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, Volume 1, Issue 3, Page 265-293, September 2025.
Mechanistic Insights into Cholesterol Homeostasis and Gut Microbiota. ABSTRACT The gut microbiota acts as a crucial intermediary between diets and human health. The accumulating evidence suggests that gut microbiota may play a significant role in cholesterol metabolism.

Myelin Lipid Composition in the Central Nervous System Is Regionally Distinct and Requires Mechanistic Target of Rapamycin Signaling

open access: yesGlia, Volume 73, Issue 9, Page 1841-1859, September 2025.
Main Points Brain oligodendrocytes have lower rates of cholesterol synthesis and higher rates of lipoprotein uptake than spinal cord oligodendrocytes. Myelin lipid content is higher in CNS regions with larger average axon diameter. Brain and spinal cord myelin cholesterol content is innately different, while myelin fatty acid content can be modulated ...

Alterations and mechanistic insights of gut microbiota and its metabolites in type 2 diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2025.
This narrative review uniquely addresses how gut microbiota‐derived metabolites mediate overlapping pathologies of insulin resistance, neuroinflammation, and amyloidogenesis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), proposing a framework for dual therapeutic targeting.

Peroxisomal and mitochondrial enzymes involved in lipid metabolism : studies on function and regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Fatty acids constitute a major part of the energy that we obtain from the diet and are also the principal source for mammals to store energy. To use the incoming or stored fatty acids as energy, the fatty acids needs to be metabolized of which the ...

Ferroptosis in Cancer and Inflammatory Diseases: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2025.
Ferroptosis, a form of cell death driven by iron and lipid peroxidation, serves as a bridge between cancer and inflammatory diseases. Microenvironmental factors such as oxidative stress collectively regulate this process. In cancer, ferroptosis exhibits dual roles: while it eliminates drug‐resistant cells, it may also promote tumor metastasis.

Understanding the Mechanism of Translocation of Adenylate Cyclase Toxin across Biological Membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT) is one of the principal virulence factors secreted by the whooping cough causative bacterium Bordetella pertussis, and it has a critical role in colonization of the respiratory tract and establishment of the disease.

Ferroptosis in Haematological Malignancies: From Regulatory Networks to Novel Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 17, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Haematological malignancies encompass a wide spectrum of blood cell disorders with diverse prognoses. Despite recent advances in therapy, many of these disorders remain incurable or exhibit relapse and drug resistance. Ferroptosis, an iron‐dependent form of cell death caused by lipid peroxidation, holds promise as a strategy to overcome the ...

Mboat7 down-regulation by hyper-insulinemia induces fat accumulation in hepatocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
BACKGROUND: Naturally occurring variation in Membrane-bound O-acyltransferase domain-containing 7 (MBOAT7), encoding for an enzyme involved in phosphatidylinositol acyl-chain remodelling, has been associated with fatty liver and hepatic disorders.

Transcriptomic and Proteomic Insights Into Buffalo Milk Fat Synthesis and the Role of IGFBP4 in BMECs

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 16, 31 August 2025.
Milk fat in buffaloes, with beneficial fatty acids, has unclear regulatory mechanisms. This study used transcriptomic and proteomic analyses of high/low milk fat buffaloes, identified (234 DEGs, e.g., IGFBP4) and proteomics (53 DEPs). Functional validation by overexpression or knockdown of IGFBP4 in buffalo mammary epithelial cells (BMECs) validated ...
