Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and PEPC-kinase (PEPC-k) isoenzymes in Arabidopsis thaliana: role in control and abiotic stress conditions

open access: closedPlanta, 2016
Arabidopsis ppc3 mutant has a growth-arrest phenotype and is affected in phosphate- and salt-stress responses, showing that this protein is crucial under control or stress conditions. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and its dedicated kinase (PEPC-k) are ubiquitous plant proteins implicated in many physiological processes.

Phosphorylation of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) in the flesh of fruits

open access: closedPlant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2016
This study determined whether phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) are phosphorylated in the flesh of a range of fruits. This was done by incubating fruit flesh with 32P[P] (where 32P[P] = 32PO43-), then PEPCK and PEPC were immunoprecipitated from extracts using specific antisera. The incorporation of 32P[

Expression of Maize Gene Encoding C4-Pyruvate Orthophosphate Dikinase (PPDK) and C4-Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase (PEPC) in Transgenic Arabidopsis

open access: closedPlant Molecular Biology Reporter, 2012
To improve the efficiency of CO2 fixation in C3 photosynthesis, C4-cycle genes were overexpressed in Arabidopsis plants. In this study, a full-length cDNA for pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase (PPDK) with 971 amino acids was isolated from Zea mays using LA-PCR.

Pyramiding expression of maize genes encoding phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase (PPDK) synergistically improve the photosynthetic characteristics of transgenic wheat

open access: closedProtoplasma, 2014
Using particle bombardment transformation, we introduced maize pepc cDNA encoding phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and ppdk cDNA encoding pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase (PPDK) into the C3 crop wheat to generate transgenic wheat lines carrying cDNA of pepc (PC lines), ppdk (PK lines) or both (PKC lines).

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase regulation in C4‐PEPC‐expressing transgenic rice during early responses to drought stress

open access: closedPhysiologia Plantarum, 2016
Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC; EC 4.1.1.31) has important functions in C4 photosynthesis and biosynthesis of intermediate metabolites. In this study, the drought resistance of C4‐PEPC‐expressing transgenic rice (Oryza sativa, line PC) plants was assessed using simulated drought conditions [i.e. polyethylene glycol (PEG)‐6000 treatment]. The dry

Recombinant thermoactive phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) from Thermosynechococcus elongatus and its coupling with mesophilic/thermophilic bacterial carbonic anhydrases (CAs) for the conversion of CO2 to oxaloacetate

open access: closedBioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2015
With the continuous increase of atmospheric CO2 in the last decades, efficient methods for carbon capture, sequestration, and utilization are urgently required. The possibility of converting CO2 into useful chemicals could be a good strategy to both decreasing the CO2 concentration and for achieving an efficient exploitation of this cheap carbon source.

Exogenous ATP enhance signal response of suspension cells of transgenic rice (Oryza sativa L.) expressing maize C 4 -pepc encoded phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase under PEG treatment

open access: closedPlant Growth Regulation, 2016
The aim of this study was to analyze the biochemical and molecular responses of suspension cells of transgenic rice (Oryza sativa L.) over-expressing the maize C 4 -pepc gene encodes phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) (PC line) to drought stress by exogenous ATP ...

Extrinsic thermostabilization factors and thermodenaturation mechanisms for phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) from an extremely thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus obamensis

open access: closedJournal of Fermentation and Bioengineering, 1997
The thermodenaturation of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) from an extremely thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus obamensis, capable of growth at temperature up to 85°C, was probed at different denaturation temperatures by UV-visible absorption, fluorescence emission and 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonate (ANS) binding and renaturation was assessed ...

Inhibition of the enzyme phosphoenolpyruvate-carboxylase (PEPC) by different pollutants

Talanta, 1997
The inhibitory effect of different pollutants on the enzyme phosphoenolpyruvate-carboxylase was investigated. For this enzyme, different procedures are described for determining the activity of the enzyme. Determination of the presence of the enzymatically-formed oxaloacetate was found to be more suitable for this purpose because of the higher ...
