Treatment and Purification of Phosphogypsum [PDF]

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chemistry, 2019
Abstract Production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers are still generating pollution problem. The (PG) wasted phosphogypsum by product created through the manufacture consists of many valuable materials to be recovered. For each ton phosphoric acid produced, about 4 – 5 tons (PG) waste was generated.

Influence of Waste Glass Powder as a Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM) on the Mechanical Properties, Expansion, Environmental Impact, and Microstructure of Cementitious Mortar

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2025.
Incorporating waste glass powder (GP) into cementitious mortars significantly reduces environmental impact, with a 35% decrease in embodied carbon and energy at 40% GP replacement. This study shows that GP enhances long‐term mechanical strength, cuts autoclave expansion by 50%, and refines microstructure through denser C‐S‐H formation.

Sustainable Pathways for the Synthesis of Calcium Sulfate Hemihydrate

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 64, Issue 20, May 12, 2025.
Calcium sulfate hemihydrate (bassanite) plays a key role in construction as a hydraulic binder. Due to its instability in water, industrial production primarily relies on thermal dehydration of gypsum. This review examines alternative, potentially more sustainable methods for the synthesis of bassanite, including gypsum conversion at lower temperatures

Effect of Phosphogypsum Characteristics on the Properties of Phosphogypsum-Based Binders

open access: yesJournal of Composites Science
Phosphogypsum, a byproduct of orthophosphoric acid production, is one of the large-tonnage wastes. Since phosphogypsum mainly consists of CaSO4 2H2O, it can be considered as an alternative gypsum-bearing raw material in the production of gypsum binders.

Sulfur fertilization sources for multisite sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) fields in Brazil

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
Abstract Sulfur (S) deficiency in soils has become a common problem in Brazilian sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) fields due to high nutrient extraction by the crop without adequate replacement. Five field trials were conducted in Brazil over two consecutive ratoon cycles to evaluate S fertilizer sources and application rates and their residual effects on ...

Phosphogypsum recycling into inorganic dyes [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
Currently, chemical wastes recycling into valuable secondary products poses a pressing challenge. During phosphoric acid production from apatite raw materials, large-tonnage phosphogypsum wastes are formed, resulting in ecosystem dysfunction. Besides, such wastes occupy significant production areas.
