The hydration of phospholipids and phospholipid-cholesterol complexes

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1978
The hydration characteristics of phosphatidylcholines and the effect of cholesterol on these were studied with differential thermal analysis and water vapour adsorption experiments. Also the water adsorption of egg phosphatidylethanolamine and the effect of cholesterol on this was studied and compared with corresponding qualities of phosphatidylcholine.

Phospholipids in myofibrils

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1982
Abstract The myofibrils were shown to be lipoprotein structures. Lipoprotein nature of these structures was confirmed by their lipid phosphorus to protein ratio in a completely dispersed myofibril preparation of the skeletal muscle cells. The ratio was found to be 49.65 ± 3.95 microgram P / mg protein.

Derivatization of phospholipids

Journal of Chromatography B, 2003
Phospholipids are major components of biological membranes. Without chemical derivatization, it is difficult to identify and quantitate phospholipids in biological samples. Chemical derivatization can improve both the selectivity and sensitivity of the analytes.

The hydration of phospholipids

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1974
Abstract The adsorption isotherms of egg phosphatidylcholine, egg phosphatidylethanolamine and bovine phosphatidylserine, in both their lyso and diacyl forms, have been determined in an examination of the hydration characteristics of films of these phospholipids.

Assessment of Phospholipid Malabsorption by Quantification of Fecal Phospholipid

Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 2004
ABSTRACTObjectives:The standard methods for quantifying fat absorption involve extraction of fat from fecal samples with heptane, ether and ethanol. These solvents do not quantitatively recover phospholipids. Malabsorption of dietary and biliary phosphatidylcholine could potentially result in choline deficiency.

Phospholipid‐ phospholipid interaction in soybean oil

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1981
AbstractPhospholipid‐phospholipid interaction in soybean oil is described. Phosphatidylcholine was effectively removed from soybean oil by degumming (water hydration), whereas phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidic acid were hardly hydratable. However, the degree of their hydration increased in the presence of phosphatidylcholine.

Phospholipid Tubelets

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
A novel electron microscopy specimen protocol shows that the presumed phospholipid bilayer membrane ribbons that wind helically to form the cylinders known as "tubules" are actually flattened tubes. These flattened tubes are alternatively found with a helical twist about the tube's long axis or occasionally flat with no winding or twist.

Binding of Serpins to Immobilized Phospholipids and Phospholipids in Suspension

2018
Binding of serine protease inhibitors (serpins) to nonprotein ligands such as glycosaminoglycans or phospholipids has been shown to modify their inhibitory activity and-at least in the case of SERPINA5-to mediate serpin internalization into cells. Also phospholipid functions may be altered when bound to serpins or other proteins.By interacting with ...

Hyaluronan–Phospholipid Interactions

Journal of Structural Biology, 1997
Hyaluronan-phospholipid interactions have been studied in vitro by negative staining and rotary shadowing electron microscopy. Hyaluronan (HA) molecules of different molecular weights (around 170,000; 740,000, and 1.9 x 10(6) Da) were added to phospholipid suspensions (DPPC or egg lecithin) that were in the form of either unilamellar particles or ...
