Facial Cosmetic Therapy Use Among Patients With Systemic Sclerosis: An Australian Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is associated with numerous facial manifestations for which patients may engage in cosmetic therapies. It is unclear how patients with SSc use these therapies. This study sought to characterize patient engagement and experiences with cosmetic therapies for SSc‐related and non‐SSc–related facial changes.

Gray whales (Eschrichtius robustus) in San Francisco Bay experience high mortality and have limited affiliation to known foraging groups

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Terrestrial and marine species are exhibiting distributional shifts due to climate change and resource availability. As food webs are impacted, some species have moved into areas of increased human activity, encountering anthropogenic hazards.

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

Using citizen science to better understand Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus) presence in northeast Scotland and the Northern Isles

open access: yesFrontiers in Conservation Science
There is no current population estimate for Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus) in Scottish waters and their distribution in the northeast of Scotland and the Northern Isles is poorly documented.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Pinnipeds, people and photo identification: the implications of grey seal movements for effective management of the species

open access: yesJournal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2019
Grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) of the North-east Atlantic are protected at designated European Marine Sites (Special Areas of Conservation, SACs) typically during their reproductive periods and in the UK at Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI ...

Modular Critical Element Recycling Platform Using a Nanoporous Additively Manufactured Gyroid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A modular recycling platform integrates 3D‐printed nanoporous gyroid structures to enable efficient critical element recovery. This system utilizes a hierarchical architecture, combining macroscopic channels with polymerization‐induced nanoscale porosity. By systematically tuning structural wall thickness and resin formulation, the platform achieves an

Photo-identification in amphibian studies: a test of I3S Pattern

open access: yesActa Herpetologica, 2016
Photo-identification is used for individual recognition of several animal species. It gives the possibility to take photos of large species from a distance or to avoid invasive marking techniques in small animals.

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

FIRST ASSAY OF PHOTO-IDENTIFICATION IN MARINE TURTLES’ NESTING POPULATION/ Primer ensayo de la foto-identificación en una población anidadora de tortugas marinas

open access: yesRevista de Investigaciones Marinas, 2014
Guanahacabibes, the westernmost part of Cuba, contains important habitat for many terrestrial and marine species, particularly marine turtles. Previous studies of turtles in this area have focused on biological characteristics such as re-migration ...
