Resonant Photoacoustic Spectroscopy
1983Nearly one hundred years after Bells discovery, resonant photoacoustic spectroscopy awoke from a long sleep. The introduction of lasers as radiation sources has led to rapid development of photoacoustics in the last ten years. Experimental results obtained under carefully optimized conditions are now in good agreement with theory of resonators.

“Any chemical species, which under ambient conditions (i.e., a temperature around 25°C, and a pressure close to 1 atm) will, for a combination of kinetic and thermodynamic reasons, decay on a timescale ranging from microseconds, or even nanoseconds, to a few minutes” can be classified as a short-lived compound.
