Photoacoustic imaging for microcirculation

Microcirculation, 2022
AbstractMicrocirculation facilitates the blood‐tissue exchange of nutrients and regulates blood perfusion. It is, therefore, essential in maintaining tissue health. Aberrations in microcirculation are potentially indicative of underlying cardiovascular and metabolic pathologies.

Photoacoustic Resonance Imaging

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2019
In this paper, a new imaging modality, named photoacoustic resonance imaging (PARI), is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Being distinct from conventional single nanosecond laser pulse induced wideband PA signal, the proposed PARI method utilizes multiburst modulated laser source to induce PA resonant signal with enhanced signal strength and ...

Photoacoustic imaging endoscope

2009 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2009
We currently present a design concept for a photoacoustic imaging endoscope as well as some preliminary experimental results. The device is based on the generation of acoustic waves in tissue by short laser pulses and the sensing of these waves with a thin, optical Fabry-Pérot etalon.

Photoacoustic computational ghost imaging

Optics Letters, 2022
Photoacoustic imaging with optical resolution usually requires a single-pixel raster scan. An alternative approach based on illumination with patterns obtained from a Hadamard matrix, measurement of the generated ultrasound wave with a single detector, followed by a reconstruction known from computational ghost imaging is demonstrated here.

Another decade of photoacoustic imaging

Physics in Medicine & Biology, 2021
Abstract Photoacoustic imaging—a hybrid biomedical imaging modality finding its way to clinical practices. Although the photoacoustic phenomenon was known more than a century back, only in the last two decades it has been widely researched and used for biomedical imaging applications.

Image reconstruction in intravascular photoacoustic imaging

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2011
Intravascular photoacoustic (IVPA) imaging is a technique for visualizing atherosclerotic plaques with differential composition. Unlike conventional photoacoustic tomography scanning, where the scanning device rotates around the subject, the scanning aperture in IVPA imaging is enclosed within the imaged object.

Intravascular ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging

2008 30th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2008
There is a need for an imaging technique that can reliably identify and characterize the vulnerability of atherosclerotic plaques. Catheter-based intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is one of the imaging tools of the clinical evaluation of atherosclerosis. However, histopathological information obtained with IVUS imaging is limited.

Photoacoustic imaging with deconvolution algorithm

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2004
The impulse response of the ultrasonic transducer used for detection is crucial for photoacoustic imaging with high resolution. We demonstrate a reconstruction method that allows the optical absorption distribution of a sample to be reconstructed without knowing the impulse response of the ultrasonic transducer.

Differential-absorption photoacoustic imaging

Optics Letters, 2009
We present differential-absorption photoacoustic imaging, which detects the difference between transient and ground-state absorption, for contrast enhancement based on suppressing undesired objects. Two tubes were imaged. One contains a Pt(II) octaethylporphine (PtOEP) dye solution and serves as an object of interest, while the other contains an IR-783

Photoacoustic Imaging of the Bladder

Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 2013
Photoacoustic imaging is a promising new technology that combines tissue optical characteristics with ultrasound transmission and can potentially visualize tumor depth in bladder cancer. We imaged simulated tumors in 5 fresh porcine bladders with conventional pulse‐echo sonography and photoacoustic imaging.
