Photochromic glasses: Properties and applications
Journal of Materials Science, 1967Photochromic materials are those which react reversibly to light. Photochromism is therefore distinguished from the familiar photographic processes, which, because of the chemical development of the image, are essentially irreversible. Many organic materials, and a few inorganic ones, show this phenomenon.

Photochromic Relaxation Kinetics
Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2005ABSTRACT A new method for evaluating the rate constants of chemical reactions has been developed based on the differential photoconversion efficiencies of photochromic FRET acceptors incorporated into molecules on both sides of a chemical equilibrium.

Thermally Reversible Photochromic Systems. Photochromism of a Dipyrrolylperfluorocyclopentene
Chemistry Letters, 1999Abstract A diarylethene having 2-cyanopyrrole rings turned blue upon UV irradiation in ethyl acetate. The colored form was unstable and returned to the colorless open-ring form with a half-life time of 37 s at room temperature. The activation energy of the thermal fading was obtained to be 32.5 kJ / mol, which is less than half of that ...

Photochromic fabrics with improved durability and photochromic performance
Fibers and Polymers, 2008Previously, we have reported a method for producing photochromic wool fabric by applying a thin layer of hybrid silica-photochromic dye onto the wool surface. While the photochromic coating showed a very fast optical response and had little influence on the fabric handle, its durability was poor.

Electrochromism in Photochromic Dithienylcyclopentenes
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2003Both photochromic and unprecedented electrochromic properties have been observed for a class of 1,2-bis(3-thienyl)cyclopentene derivatives bearing either a thiophene or a phenyl group attached to the reactive carbon centers. These compounds can be interconverted between their colorless ring-open and colored ring-closed states using UV and visible light,
