Photochromic organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposite hard coatings with tailored fast switching properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A recently developed photochromic organic-inorganic nanocomposite (Nanomer) coating system is investigated, which is based on an epoxysilane as network former, different bisepoxides as spacer and an organic amine as thermal cross-linker.

Gated photochromism of 1,2-diarylethenes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A dithienylethene derivative containing a cyclobutene-1,2-dione skeleton does not exhibit photochromic properties. However, when both ketone functions are protected with cyclic acetal groups, photochromic behavior is ...

Photochromic properties of spirooxazine dyes in ormocer gels and coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The wet- and "cold"-chemical characteristic of sol-gel process makes the sol-gel derived materials offer exciting potentials as hosts for photochromic dyes.

A Universal Strategy for Reversible Photochromism of Viologen Derivatives in Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials
Viologens are important members of organic photochromic (PC) materials. However, the photochromism of the viologen derivatives in solutions, especially in water, can be hardly detected due to the restricted photo‐induced electron transfer (PET) caused by

Photoinduced Electron Transfer (PET) as Key to Accelerate the Cycloreversion Reaction of Arylquadricyclanes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that the photoinduced cycloreversion of a methoxynaphthylquadricyclane in the presence of suitable photocatalysts gives quantitatively the corresponding norbornadiene. As this photochromic norbornadiene‐quadricyclane cycle has favorable properties for light energy conversion, this method provides a useful tool for the targeted ...

Fluorescent Diarylethenes With Polar Groups: Synthesis, Spectra, and Optical Microscopy Applications

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Blinking green and flashing red: photo‐switchable and photo‐activatable probes emitting green and red light were prepared and applied as bioconjugates in super‐resolution optical microscopy. ABSTRACT The use of photoactivatable fluorescent diarylethenes (fDAEs) in biology‐related light microscopy has been restricted by the lack of probes having freely ...

TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF PHOTOCHEMISTRY IN PHYCOERYTHROCYANIN α-SUBUNIT [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The photochemical activities of phycoerythrocyanin α-subunits from Mastigocladus laminosus separated by isoelectric focusing were tested by irradiating at 500, 550, 577 and 600 nm.

Photochromism of a Spiropyran in Low-Temperature Matrices: Unprecedented Bidirectional Switching between a Merocyanine and an Allene Intermediate.

open access: yesJournal of Physical Chemistry A, 2022
Photochromism of spiropyrans has attracted much attention due to its potential in many light-controlled system applications. However, several fundamental aspects regarding the structure, energetics, and mechanistic details of the transformations of ...

Bifunctional Molecular Switches in Fused Diarylethene–Rhodamine Systems

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, EarlyView.
Spectroscopic and time‐dependent density‐functional theory studies show that these novel rhodamine‐based diarylethene (DAE) compounds display intense UV absorption, undergo reversible two‐step protonation involving triazole and rhodamine units, and respond selectively to acid, base, and metal ions.
