Acceleration of photochromism and negative photochromism by the interactions with mesoporous silicas
The adsorption of merocyanine dye onto mesoporous silicas with varied pore sizes (5.5, 9.4 and 2.2 nm) from the toluene solution of 1,3,3-trimethylindolino-6'-nitrobenzopyrylospiran under UV irradiation was investigated quantitatively. The photoinduced adsorption of merocyanine onto SBA-15 with the pore diameter of 9.4 nm followed the pseudo-second ...

Synthesis of photochromic nanoparticles and determination of the mechanism of photochromism [PDF]
Photochromic nanoparticles of zinc-silicon oxide were synthesized using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. These particles turned black upon irradiating with ultraviolet light. We investigated this phenomenon using density functional theory calculations.

The excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) photoswitch tpmSA, which features an oxygen−acceptor, exhibits higher photochromic contrast (ΔE*Lab>74) than its nitrogen‐acceptor Schiff base analogues (ΔE*Lab<30). Theoretical calculations indicate that tpmSA effectively suppresses GSIPT, thereby enhancing the contrast.

Organic nanoparticulate photochromes [PDF]
Photochromic organic dyes can be widely used in materials for optically rewritable data storage, photonic switches, memories, sensors, or actuators. In recent years photochromic materials based on nanoparticles became particularly focused, since they can

Benzo[cd]azulenyl, a nonalternant isomer of phenalenyl, is identified as a new member of the nonalternant hydrocarbon radical family. The tri‐tert‐butyl substituted derivative forms a stable σ‐dimer in the solid state. Upon exposure to external stimuli such as light and heat, the σ‐bond of the dimer dissociates, producing the monomeric radical.

Gated photochromism of 1,2-diarylethenes [PDF]
A dithienylethene derivative containing a cyclobutene-1,2-dione skeleton does not exhibit photochromic properties. However, when both ketone functions are protected with cyclic acetal groups, photochromic behavior is ...

Dynamic Control of Nucleic Acids Self‐Assembly and Expression Using Photoswitches
We review here the recent progress made in the design of molecular photoswitches, and highlight their implementation for the dynamic control over nucleic acids self‐assembly and expression. ABSTRACT Synthetic nucleic acids have become readily available and now constitute versatile building blocks in materials science—where they can be used to engineer ...

Photoreactions and Structural Changes of Anabaena Sensory Rhodopsin
Anabaena sensory rhodopsin (ASR) is an archaeal-type rhodopsin found in eubacteria. The gene encoding ASR forms a single operon with ASRT (ASR transducer) which is a 14 kDa soluble protein, suggesting that ASR functions as a photochromic sensor by ...

Photochromic carbazole photoinitiators for precision visible‐light photopolymerization
New carbazole–naphthopyran derivatives were employed as visible‐light‐activated photoinitiators, enabling rapid and localized radical photopolymerization to produce well‐defined thin solid objects within minutes. Abstract Two carbazole derivatives, each incorporating a naphthopyran unit and an aromatic ketone, were synthesized and evaluated as ...
