Characteristics of circular waveguide photodetectors using SiGe/Si multiple quantum wells

open access: yes, 2000
We report on the fabrication of circular waveguide photodetectors with a response near 1.3 mu m wavelength using SiGe/Si multiple quantum wells. The quantum efficiency of the circular waveguide photodetector is improved when compared with that of the rib

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Germanium metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors evanescently coupled with upper-level silicon oxynitride dielectric waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate Ge-on-Si metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetectors monolithically integrated with silicon oxynitride (SiOxNy) waveguides. The waveguide is placed on top of the photodetector and between the metal electrodes, evading the shading effect

Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor Photodetectors

open access: yes, 2010
The major radiation of the Sun can be roughly divided into three regions: ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light. Detection in these three regions is important to human beings.

High‐Power Rapid Laser‐Induced Synthesis of Multi‐functional Cobalt Metal‐Organic Framework With an Unprecedented Synthesis Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Laser‐assisted synthesis enables rapid (within 1 h) and high‐yield (≥90%) production of Co‐MOFs with mesoporous structures, tunable magnetic and optical properties, and efficient adsorption of N2, CH4, and CO2 for low‐energy gas separation. DFT calculations elucidate the electronic structure and adsorption behavior.

Si-based membrane resonant cavity enhanced photodetectors

open access: yes, 2005
Si-based membrane RCE photodetectors were introduced. The RCE photodiodes were fabricated on silicon membranes formed from SOI substrate.

Multimode interference filter to solve degradation on coupler common-mode rejection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
After quantifying degradation of a common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) 3dB-coupler due to excitation of TE01 mode, a novel compact circuit including multimode interference (MMI) coupler+bend+MMI+filter (CBF) is proposed.

Highly Anisotropic Quasi‐Direct Organic Metal Halide Hybrids: A Platform for Polarization‐Sensitive Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
One‐dimensional C4N2H14PbBr4 is shown to have a quasi‐direct electronic band structure and strongly anisotropic transport with polarized broadband emission. A GW/Bethe–Salpeter excited‐state force formalism, supported by polarized Raman and temperature‐dependent photoluminescence, identifies low–frequency Pb–Br phonons that drive ultrafast exciton self‐

Photodetectors for Scintillator Proportionality Measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We evaluate photodetectors for use in a Compton Coincidence apparatus designed for measuring scintillator proportionality. There are many requirements placed on the photodetector in these systems, including active area, linearity, and the ability to ...
