Photodynamic Diagnosis–Assisted Transurethral Resection — Lights Out?
NEJM Evidence, 2022In a randomized trial and accompanying cost-effectiveness analysis, conducted in people with suspected urothelial carcinoma of the bladder, Heer at al.1 in this issue of NEJM Evidence compare transurethral resection aided by intravesical installation of a photosensitizer with the same procedure guided by standard white light.

Photodynamic Diagnosis and Therapy in Dermatology
Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, 1998The topical application of δ-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) induces porphyrin formation in the skin, preferentially in tumor tissues. Irradiation of the porphyrin-enriched tumor tissue with Wood’s light leads to emission of a brick-red fluorescence. This principle may be used as a diagnostic procedure which may be termed photodynamic diagnosis (PDD). In ALA-

Photodynamic diagnosis in the gastrointestinal tract
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America, 2004Clinical data on photodynamic diagnosis for the detection of premalignant and malignant lesions in the gastrointestinal tract are encouraging so far. A major benefit of using autofluorescence is the lack of side effects because no sensitizer has to be applied. However, highly sophisticated detection systems are needed to enhance the weak ...

Photodynamic Diagnosis and Therapy in Gynecology
Journal of Environmental Pathology, Toxicology and Oncology, 2008Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) and therapy (PDT) are modern methods that are evaluated in different fields in gynecology. PDD is currently under investigation in gynecologic conditions such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), endometriosis, and ovarian cancer.

FCLA-assisted photodynamic diagnosis
SPIE Proceedings, 1999Conventional Photo-Dynamic Diagnosis (PDD) has several serious limitations, such as autofluorescence disturbance, poor penetration ability of the exciting laser etc. All these problems are because the exciting laser wavelength at the main absorption peak of the photosensitizer (e. g. HpD) is too short.

Photodynamic diagnosis of oral neoplasms
The Second Asian and Pacific Rim Symposium on Biophotonics, 2004. APBP 2004., 2005Light-induced fluorescence detection using Photofrin/sup /spl reg// topically provides a sensitive, noninvasive technique for the early identification of malignant neoplasms in the oral cavity. The development of an endoscopic fluorescence imaging system that could be used for real-time, noninvasive and diagnosis in clinical application.

Photodynamic diagnosis for detection of peritoneal carcinomatosis
Journal of Surgical Research, 2015Peritoneal carcinomatosis is the dissemination of cancer in the peritoneal cavity secondary to abdominal or extra-abdominal malignancies. Accurate assessment of the disease's burden is a challenge because of the complexity of the peritoneal cavity and the small size of the metastatic nodules.

Photodynamic Diagnosis and Therapy of Cancer
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010This paper gives brief information about photodynamic method used in diagnosis and therapy for cancer and other human body disorders. In particular it concentrates on detection and analysis of fluorescent dye, i.e. protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) and its two‐photon excitation (TPE) process, which offers photodynamic method many fascinating possibilities.

Bronchoscopic photodynamic diagnosis and therapy for lung cancer
Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 2000Photodynamic diagnosis and therapy have exciting potential in lung cancer management. Fluorescence bronchoscopy enhances the detection of preinvasive lesions and early invasive carcinomas involving the central airways, whereas photodynamic therapy (PDT) provides an effective method for treating these lesions with preservation of lung tissue.
