Stick-Slip Dynamics in a Granular Material With Varying Grain Angularity
Experiments, simulations, and theoretical treatments of granular materials typically feature circular or elliptical grains. However, grains found in natural systems often have flat faces that introduce local rotational constraints; these rotational ...

Theoretical Basis for the Photoelastic Residual Stress Evaluation in Misaligned Cubic Crystals
Photoelasticity is a fast and powerful technique for internal stress detection and quality control in crystals; to fully exploit its possibilities, an appropriate theoretical analysis must be developed for different crystallographic structure and ...

Stress State in an Eccentric Elastic Ring Loaded Symmetrically by Concentrated Forces
The stress state from an eccentric ring made of an elastic material symmetrically loaded on the outer boundary by concentrated forces is deduced. The analytical results are obtained using the Airy stress function expressed in bipolar coordinates.

Photoelasticity of CNGS crystals
All piezo-optic coefficients (POCs) and elasto-optic coefficients (ELOCs) of Ca3NbGa3Si2O14 (CNGS) and Ca3TaGa3Si2O14 (CTGS) trigonal crystals of the langasite group are determined from quantum mechanical calculations based on the hybrid density functional theory, as implemented in the CRYSTAL program.
