Effect of Initial Granular Structure on the Evolution of Contact Force Chains
The effect of initial granular structural conditions on load transmission patterns was experimentally investigated. Two types of granular structures were prepared by laminating cylindrical model particles of different diameters, to which photoelastic ...

Open‐shell quinoids with intrinsic spins are assembled into chiral supramolecular structures via blending with chiral additives. Thermal annealing induces stable co‐crystallization, leading to a 30‐fold amplification of chirality (gabs = 1.23 × 10−2). Significantly, this study represents the first integration of spin‐possessing chiral assemblies into ...

Uncertainty‐Aware Visual Analysis of Force Networks in 2D Granular Materials
Abstract Uncertainty in experimental measurements makes it challenging to determine which features are intrinsic to the phenomenon and which are most stable and reliable. Granular materials, such as sand, form a complex system in which the forces between individual particles influence the material's macroscopic behavior.

Photoelastic constants of ruby
The eight piezo-optic and eight elasto-optic constants of synthetic, single crystal ruby have been determined using the cadmium red radiation of 643.8 nanometers (nm). All the constants are found to be negative in value, or to have very small positive values.

Load estimation from photoelastic fringe patterns under combined normal and shear forces
Recently there has been some spurt of interests to use photoelastic materials for sensing applications. This has been successfully applied for designing a number of signal-based sensors, however, there have been limited efforts to design image-based ...
