Global Ionospheric Responses to Four X‐Class Solar Flares in November 2025

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract We investigate global ionospheric responses to four X‐class solar‐disk flares that occurred in November 2025 from the same solar active region, using multi‐instrument observations including GNSS, ionosonde, geomagnetic and GOES solar irradiance data. Pronounced dayside TEC enhancements are observed for three flares (#2 X1.2, #3 X5.1, and #4 X4.

Multiple photoionization for the K shell in the Fe atom

open access: yes, 2021
Multiple photoionization for the K shell in the Fe atom is studied for all levels of the ground configuration. The study shows that sextuple-photoionization cross sections dominate for all levels of the 3d64s2 configuration.

Seasonal and Diurnal Variability of Thermospheric Metastable Helium Observed by Multi‐Platform Observations and Numerical Modeling

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Metastable helium (He∗ ${\text{He}}^{\ast }$) in the thermosphere emits at 1,083 nm and provides a powerful diagnostic of thermospheric composition, solar radiation, and transport. Its detection remains challenging because of its extremely low density and high‐altitude.

Weak Positive Discharges Leading to Lightning Initiation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Lightning‐initiating events in the Earth's atmosphere originate within compact regions of space with dimensions on the order of hundreds of meters. In the strongest events the associated current pulses propagate from positive to negative thundercloud charge centers at speeds approaching one tenth of the speed of light, a process referred to as

The Rich Chemistry of Ionized Methanol With Sulfur Dioxide: Pathways to Prebiotic and Elusive Species in Earth's Atmosphere and Space

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 39, 22 October 2026.
The reaction between the methanol radical cation and sulfur dioxide is remarkably fast and forms several ionic and neutral products (HOSOH+, CH2OSO+, CH2OH+, CH2O, H2O, HSO2). The chemistry goes beyond simple proton or hydrogen transfer, revealing a close interaction between the two species, relevant to atmospheric and astrochemical environments where ...

The photoionization of Nitrogen and Oxygen molecules in intense field

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2017
In this work, the experimental techniques of supersonic molecular beam, femtosecond laser and time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry were applied to investigate the photoionizations of nitrogen and oxygen molecules under intense femtosecond laser field ...
