Unusual Product Distribution from Friedländer Reaction of Di- and Triacetylbenzenes with 3-Aminonaphthalene-3-Carbaldehyde and Properties of New Benzo[g]quinoline-Derived Aza-aromatics

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
The Friedländer reactions of acetylbenzenes and 2-acetylpyridine with 3-aminonaphthalene-2-carbaldehyde afforded the corresponding 2-phenylbenzo[g]quinoline and 2-(pyrid-2-yl)benzo[g]quinoline, respectively.

General Approach To Compute Phosphorescent OLED Efficiency

open access: yes, 2018
Phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) are widely used in the display industry. In PhOLEDs, cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes are the most widespread triplet emitter dopants to attain red, e.g., Ir(piq)3 (piq = 1-phenylisoquinoline), and ...

Complexation‐Mediated Diffusion‐Limited Crystal Growth: A General Framework for Anisotropic Crystal Growth in Cu‐Based Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Complexation‐Mediated Diffusion‐Limited Growth (CMDLG) framework is established to rationalize the anisotropic growth of lead‐free perovskites. Integrating coordination chemistry with mass transport kinetics, this study theoretically derives and experimentally validates that stable iodocuprate complexes induce a diffusion‐limited regime.

Light Activated Induction of Cuproptosis in Resistant Cancer Cells Using Polymeric BODIPY Nanoparticles for Photoactivated Chemotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a photo‐responsive nanoparticle platform that precisely triggers copper‐dependent cuproptotic cell death in (drug‐resistant) cancer cells. The system remains stable and inactive in the dark but releases cytotoxic species upon red‐light irradiation, achieving potent activity in drug‐resistant breast cancer cells.

Spectroscopic Signatures for the Dark Bose-Einstein Condensation of Spatially Indirect Excitons

open access: yes, 2017
We study semiconductor excitons confined in an electrostatic trap of a GaAs bilayer heterostructure. We evidence that optically bright excitonic states are strongly depleted while cooling to sub-Kelvin temperatures.

Uncovering the Origin of Efficiency Roll‐Off in TADF OLEDs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
OLEDs based on thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) materials often suffer from a severe drop in efficiency at high brightness levels. This work presents a technique to uncover the source of this efficiency drop, and quantifies the exciton‐exciton and exciton‐polaron annihilation processes responsible for efficiency losses in our TADF OLEDs ...

Exciton and interband optical transitions in hBN single crystal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Near band gap photoluminescence (PL) of hBN single crystal has been studied at cryogenic temperatures with synchrotron radiation excitation. The PL signal is dominated by the D-series previously assigned to excitons trapped on structural defects.

Trifluoromethoxylated Electron Acceptor Enabling Ternary Organic Solar Cells with over 20% Power Conversion Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this work, we introduce a trifluoromethoxy (OCF3) group as a pseudo‐halogen terminal group design for non‐fullerene acceptors, which combines strong inductive electron‐withdrawing ability with moderate resonance donation. The as‐synthesized BTP‐OCF3, when benchmarked against its methoxy analogue BTP‐OCH3, demonstrates narrowed bandgap ...

Incorporation of europium III complex into nanoparticles and films obtained by the Sol-Gel methodology

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2010
The sol-gel process is very effective for the preparation of new materials with potential applications in optics, sensors, catalyst supports, coatings, and specialty inorganic polymers that can be used as hosts for the accommodation of organic molecules.

Voltage‐Gated Dedoping of n‐Doped Poly(benzodifurandione) as an Interfacial Protective Mechanism in Electrochromic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochromic polymer stability under overpotential is improved by inserting an ultrathin, transparent n‐doped poly(benzodifurandione) interlayer between indium tin oxide and a poly(3,4‐propylenedioxythiophene)‐based electrochromic polymer. The interlayer supports rapid switching at operating bias, then becomes resistive near +0.8 V to suppress excess
